These Bars in Downtown Austin Are Absolutely Essential

There are a ton of unique and interesting bars in downtown Austin, and some are more well-known than others. From secret speakeasies and craft cocktail bars to cozy dives — there’s a bar for every occasion. These are the best bars in downtown Austin!

The Driskill

604 Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701

We had to do it — the Driskill dates back all the way to 1886. It’s one of the most iconic — and possibly haunted — buildings in Downtown Austin. Their bar serves up incredible classic and specialty cocktails with that old Texas feel.

Roosevelt Room

307 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78701

Roosevelt Room has some of the best cocktails in Austin, hands-down. Their menu has 53 classic cocktails organized by decade — dating as far back as the late 1600s! Plus, they have their own innovative house creations and house classics; everything is fantastic.

DuMont’s Down Low

214 W 4th St Suite B, Austin, TX 78701

Located in a basement in the historic warehouse district, DuMont’s has a spectacular menu of craft cocktails. Not to mention those allegedly haunted basement vibes create the perfect cozy — and slightly spooky — atmosphere.

Mort Subite Belgian Beer Bar

308 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701

If you’re a fan of Belgian beer, Mort Subite is the answer! They have a massive list of imported Belgian beers, and some local craft brews. Along with beer, the pub has an excellent selection of Belgian spirits and a great cocktail menu.

Seven Grand

405 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701

Of the many whiskey bars located around Austin, Seven Grand may well be the best. They have a curated selection of over 400 premium whiskeys — yes 400! And, though the bar was founded on five classic whisky cocktails: Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Rye Manhattan, Whiskey Sour, and Mint Julep; today they have a sizable list of delicious craft cocktail options.

Garage

503 Colorado St, Austin, TX 78701

Garage is one of Austin’s many secret speakeasies. Well, maybe they’re not so secret now, but once upon a time, they were nigh impossible to get into — and some still are! Garage is located in a parking garage downtown, and you’ll know you’ve made it when you see an unassuming sign reading “Cocktails.”

Dive Bar Austin

1703 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78701

Dive Bar is exactly as it sounds — a neighborhood dive bar. They’ve got some solid beers on draft, a great selection of cans and bottles, and some fantastic classic cocktails. They pride themselves on their welcoming atmosphere, and the whole place really is cool and comfortable.

Craft Pride

61 Rainey St, Austin, TX 78701

Craft Pride is a true celebration of Texas craft beers. They boast 54 taps of Texas-only craft beers that rotate seasonally and based on availability, including several limited edition and special release brews. You’re guaranteed to find beer you like!
