Here in Austin, there are always loads of things to do in October. After all, it’s finally getting cool enough outside to not start sweating instantly — not to mention, it’s close to Halloween! Of course some of the highlights are ACL the first two weekends, a TON of pumpkin patches to visit, and plenty of beer, but there’s so much more. These are the 8 things we’re most looking forward to this October!
ACL Festival
Friday, October 7 – Sunday, October 9 & Friday, October 14 – Sunday, October 16, 2022 @ Zilker Park
We’ll get the obvious out of the way. ACL returns for two weekends this October with a stacked lineup and plenty of eats and night shows.
Austin Film Festival
Thursday, October 27 – Thursday, November 3, 2022
Austin’s film industry is equally — if not more — popular than it’s music. Every year for 8 days, there’s a celebration of everything film. During the festival the largest screenwriters conference in the world takes place, with over 200 panels exploring film, podcasts, plays, and more. And don’t miss checking out the winners of their script and film competitions!
Formula 1
Friday, October 21 – Sunday, October 23, 2022 @ 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd, Austin, TX 78617
Every year Austin is abuzz — quite literally — with the sound of Formula 1. The Grand Prix is an incredible event, and a must visit, to experience the thrill of the world’s fastest drivers going all out, not to mention the major music performances.
Texas Book Festival

The Texas Book Festival has been connecting readers to authors since 1995! It’s an awesome place to find your next favorite book — and the festival does a lot to support reading education and libraries!
Field Guide Festival
Saturday, October 1, 2022 @ St. John’s Studio in Austin
At the Field Guide Festival you’ll be about as close to farm-to-table as you can get — without just being at the farm. It’s a weekend of incredible food prepared by amazing chefs all over Austin!
Levitation
Thursday, October 27 – Sunday, 30, 2022 @ Multiple Venues
Levitation is a Psychedelic Rock fest that originated in Austin and it’s one of the city’s many music specialities. The shows run for four days in the Red River Cultural District over Halloween weekend, packed full of exciting music, including plenty of local favorites!
House of Torment

It wouldn’t be October without something scary. House of Torment is back and as spooky as ever! There are three brand new attractions, so grab your friends and get ready to scream at this iconic haunted house.
Boo at the Zoo
Friday & Saturday, October 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, 2022 @ 10808 Rawhide Trail, Austin, TX 78736
Boo at the Zoo takes place at the Austin Zoo on Fridays and Saturdays. You’ll be able to enjoy a late-night adventure visiting the animals, not to mention the haunted train and haunted house! Wearing your costumes is not required but highly encouraged.
