Where to Find Mocktails in Austin Bars for Dry January

If you’re like most of us, November and December are filled with end-of-year company parties, Friendsgiving, holiday time with family, lots of food, and lots of alcohol. It’s no surprise that with January being a time of New Year’s resolutions and a less full social calendar, many people look to get healthier — whether that be through diet and exercise, cooking meals at home or dry January. It can be challenging to go all of January without any drinks, especially if you are surrounded by others who don’t have the same goal. So next time someone asks you to meet up for a drink in Austin, why not suggest a bar that also serves mocktails? Here are some great ones to consider in the Austin area.

Sans Bar

1818 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702

We couldn’t create a list of bars in Austin that serve mocktails without first talking about Sans Bar, a bar that serves only alcohol-free libations. Sans Bar was founded by Chris Marshall because he saw a need for increased connection and to create a place of belonging in a world where people feel isolated or shamed for the decision to not drink alcohol.

Punch Bowl Social

1818 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702

With a focus on experience and connection, Punch Bowl Social is a great option for a night out with sober and non-sober friends. Punch Bowl Socials’ goal is to encourage human interaction so the focus is not just on drinking, but customer’s experience as a whole. With a plethora of non-alcoholic drink options, there is an option for everyone.

Midnight Cowboy

1818 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702

Despite being one of Austin’s oldest speakeasies, Midnight Cowboy does not disappoint when it comes to its mocktails. Known for their delicious and unique craft cocktails, they have now branched into the mocktail space with drink titles like “Sweet Nothings” and “Oxymoron”.

Hillside Farmacy

1209 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702

Now a historical landmark, this once ’50s pharmacy has been transformed into a local farm-to-table restaurant and bar that transports you back to the era of poodle skirts and the lindy hop. Their soda fountain menu has a long list of craft drinks that all come in a mocktail or cocktail version.

Skinny’s Off Track Bar

1806 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702

Don’t be fooled by this sports bar: Skinny’s Off Track Bar does serve non-alcoholic beverages alongside beer, whiskeys, and other cocktails. Another bar that is going for the vintage vibe, Skinny’s opened in 2022 but will transport you back to the ’70s with their soda-inspired drinks.

Pecan Square Café

1200 W 6th St #B, Austin, TX 78703

Looking for something a little more upscale? Pecan Square Cafe provides a refined approach to its shifting seasonal menu. Although not listed, their whole cocktail menu is able to be modified to mocktails by subbing in Slow Luck’s nonalcoholic spirit.

Launderette

2115 Holly St, Austin, TX 78702

A converted laundromat, Launderette offers a rotating menu of complex mocktails to satisfy any sober or sober-curious person in Austin. Drinks like the Bruleed Pineapple consist of spicy ginger beer, sage peppercorn syrup, and lemon. Oh, and don’t forget the famous color-changing straws that spice up any drink.
