Catch This Scary Movies Marathon at the Haunted, Historic Paramount This Fall

Experience three nights of scary movies at the Paramount, plus special presentations with directors Robert Rodriguez (THE FACULTY) and Bryan Bertino (THE STRANGERS) to celebrate the spooky season in Austin’s haunted historic theatre.

The Paramount Theatre’s Classic Film Series is returning this October for a special run of film events to celebrate the season — PANIC AT THE PARAMOUNT. In collaboration with Hyperreal Film Club, the Paramount has programmed three days of mystery, suspense and classic horror October 18th, 22nd and 23rd for those film fans who count Halloween among their favorite times of the year. And what better way to experience these thrills and chills than in a century-old movie palace that comes with its own haunted stories.

Director Robert Rodriguez will kick off the series on Tuesday, October 18th with his own special event double feature and Q&A, including THE FACULTY (1998) and a secret screening of a classic horror film to immediately follow. The second film will be included in the ticket price.

“I’m so looking forward to re-introducing THE FACULTY at my favorite theater, the Paramount,” says Rodriguez. “I first introduced the film there 24 years ago for a special Austin premiere on December 16, 1998. THE FACULTY was also the very first movie I had filmed entirely in Austin, so bringing it back to the Paramount means a lot to me.”

On the following Saturday, October 22nd, Hyperreal Film Club will screen THE STRANGERS (2008) with a Q&A with director Bryan Bertino after the film. The screening will be part of a double feature with the cult comedy horror classic RE-ANIMATOR (1985) screening after the Q&A.

“Hyperreal Film Club is thrilled to co-present this trifecta extravaganza: an iconic Austin film with an iconic Austin filmmaker at THE iconic Austin movie palace,” says David McMichael, Hyperreal Film Club co-founder.

Closing out the series on Sunday, October 23rd, Paramount Film Programmer Stephen Jannise is offering up two beloved horror classics that never fail to delight and terrify: THE SHINING (1980) and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984).

“100-year-old movie palaces are bound to have a few hauntings over the years, and the Paramount Theatre has certainly had its fair share of ghost stories. Maybe that’s why we get so many requests to screen horror films in October,” says Paramount Theatre Film Programmer Stephen Jannise. “I’m so excited that, this year, we are honoring those requests in a big way – partnering with our friends at Hyperreal Film Club to welcome genre master Robert Rodriguez for a screening and in-depth conversation on THE FACULTY plus a mystery 2nd film of his own choosing. But somehow that’s not all! We’re also thrilled to welcome writer/director Bryan Bertino to present his instant classic THE STRANGERS, and we’ll be screening other beloved horror favorites RE-ANIMATOR, THE SHINING, and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. For those of us who count Halloween as our favorite time of year, the Paramount will be THE place to get into the holiday spirit!”
