Why Zoo-ologie is Good for Your Soul

Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the oldest and last few free zoos in the nation. How does such a large zoo remain free year-round? It hosts amazingly entertaining fundraisers like Zoo-ologie. To address this right off the bat, yes it’s a fundraiser. I’m not affiliated with the zoo in any way, shape, or form—though I do think it’s important to support one of the last free cultural attractions in Chicago.

With that being said, that’s not at all why I’m writing about it. This cleverly named annual event seamlessly blends all of the things that make life worth living, and I don’t say that lightly.

Every time I start getting ready for a wedding, it puts me in the best mood ever. Zoo-ologie carries with it this similar wedding feel as well. There’s dancing, music, drinks, and everyone is dressed like their auditioning for the Great Gatsby. There’s something magical about looking snazzy for an event where you know you’ll be having fun. Have you ever ridden a merry-go-round in a suit or dress? Neither have I, but add drinks to the mix and this sounds like something I need to try.

But really, what good is a zoo event without animals? Different portions of the event are set up near the animal habitats, so you’ll be able to check them out as you mingle with other zoogoers. If you up the ante a bit and decide on VIP tickets, you’ll be able to receive a mystery animal encounter. With this, you can be introduced to any of the zoos majestic creatures—an experience you obviously can’t get anywhere else.

As if seeing all of the animals wasn’t cool enough, you’re raising money for a great cause. By attending, you’re helping the zoo pay to feed and care for the animals. Too often, after a night of partying (Read: after too many shots) you wake up feeling like you’ve stepped in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. Well, you can rest easy knowing that you’re not just out having fun, you’re helping out with something important at the same time.

Zoo-ologie is held on Saturday, May 9th. You can purchase tickets and get more info here.
