The Kansas City Royals come to town Tuesday night, and honestly, it’s hard to get too excited when they’ve absolutely owned us this year. KC leads the season series 8-3, and they’ve won 17 of the last 20 games against us. But hey, we’re on a three-game winning streak and playing with some confidence, so maybe we can make things interesting.
Game Info
- When: Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Rate Field
- Pitchers: Michael Lorenzen (5-8, 4.50 ERA) vs Martín Pérez (1-3, 2.51 ERA)
- Records: Royals 67-65, White Sox 48-83
Finally, A Pitching Advantage?
For once, we might actually have the better starter on the mound. Martín Pérez has been solid since joining us, posting a 2.51 ERA and holding opponents to just a .194 average. He’s only made five starts, but two have been quality outings, and he’s been keeping runs off the board.
The Royals are sending Michael Lorenzen out there, and he’s been pretty hittable this year. Opponents are batting .265 against him with a 4.50 ERA. He’s had some decent starts (seven quality starts), but our hitters should have a chance to get to him.
The Betting Reality
Vegas still likes the Royals, making them slight favorites at around -115 to -124. We’re getting +100 to +104 as the home dogs, which honestly feels about right given our records. The total is sitting at 8 to 8.5 runs.
One projection actually has us winning 5-4, which would be nice, but most models give KC about a 51-52% chance to win. At least it’s close on paper.
Why We Might Have a Chance
Look, we’re not kidding ourselves about what this season has been. At 48-83, we’re playing out the string and hoping the young guys continue developing. But we are riding a three-game win streak, and the Royals have been struggling lately (2-4 in their last six).
Kansas City is still fighting for a playoff spot at 67-65, so they’ll be motivated, but maybe we can catch them looking ahead or dealing with some pressure.
The Historical Reality Check
The numbers don’t lie – KC has had our number for years now. But that’s exactly why pulling off a win or two in this series would feel so good. Sometimes teams just have your number until they don’t, and maybe Tuesday night is when we start turning the tide.
White Sox Fan Perspective
We’re not asking for miracles here. A competitive game would be nice. Maybe steal one or two from a team that’s actually playing for something. With Pérez on the mound and our recent hot streak, we’ve got as good a shot as we’re going to get.
At this point in the season, any win feels good, but beating KC would feel even better. Let’s see if we can make them sweat a little bit.
Let´s go White Sox!
