About The Legacy Walk
Found on Halsted between Belmont Avenue and Grace Street, The Legacy Walk is a half-mile long memorial to LGBTQ+ history. It consists of “Rainbow Pylons” that commemorate the life and work of notable LGBTQ+ figures whose sexualities were overlooked or ignored. The bronze memorials are topped with rainbows and feature biographical plates for people like Jane Addams, Alan Turing, and Frida Kahlo. Guided tours are available, and The Legacy Walk is recognized as a Historic Landmark by the City of Chicago. It consists of 40 unique structures and has attracted over 1.5 million visitors since it was established in 2012.
