About South Shore Nature Sanctuary
Located along the coast of Lake Michigan near South Shore Cultural Center, South Shore Nature Sanctuary is a nature-filled escape within Chicago. It includes six acres of dune, wetland, woodland, prairie, savannah, and shrubland habitats. Sitting in a quaint area near the lake, South Shore Nature Sanctuary is a favorite of conservationists and bird watchers. Also known as South Shore Natural Area, it is one of the top nature preserves near downtown Chicago. It features also two picnic areas and a scenic boardwalk over the wetlands.
