Another Year of Music and Mayhem from Riot Fest, the Windy City’s Boldest Music Event
If you’re looking for an event to bookend the summer festival season, get ready to break out your leather and studs for Riot Fest from September 16 – 18 in Douglas Park.
Music fans that are less familiar with Riot Fest can think of it as the snotty, rebellious little brother to Chicago’s more seasoned music festivals. Geared toward those in favor of punk, rock, alternative, metal and hip-hop, this year’s lineup surely boasts some heavy-hitters. Fans young and old will gather to see Glenn Danzig unite The Original Misfits as the title headliner, alongside big names like Morrissey, Death Cab for Cutie, Social Distortion, and Nas. Other acts like The Hives, Dan Deacon, Big D and the Kids Table, and Denzel Curry represent an eclectic mix. A few mystery performers here and there mean that it’s only a matter of time before rumors and speculations start to brew.

The festival is packing up and moving to Douglas Park after backlash from residents of its original home, Humboldt Park, complained of disruption and damage to the neighborhood from last year’s fest. Love it or hate it, the raucous fest has a soft side, with organizers committing to the humble effort of developing music and arts programs in Chicago’s underprivileged schools and communities. Following expansion to major hotspots like Denver and Toronto in recent years, it’ll be exciting to see how this stand-out fest evolves in the future.
