Celebrate the Chicago Herpetological Society’s 50th Anniversary with Reptile Fest.
If you love reptiles and amphibians then you’re in for a treat. This year, Reptile Fest will be held at the Physical Education Complex of Northeastern Illinois University. Reptile Fest is the largest gathering of reptiles in North America, and it gives people the chance to see, touch, and hold cool reptiles and amphibians. Not only is it fun, but the fest also gives reptile owners the chance to learn more about how to properly care for their pets!
Children love Reptile Fest, because instead of learning about reptiles and amphibians in science class, it gives them a chance to actually hold and touch them first-hand. How many people can actually say they have held a Tiger Salamander or an Alligator?
The Chicago Herpetological Society is a non-profit organization that is passionate about the conservation of all wildlife. Their main goal is to spread knowledge of these creatures, and all of their members (600+) are volunteers. Also, some of the proceeds from the fest will be donated to conservation projects with funding going toward the organization’s rescue program.
The event is all weekend! Pick a day, bring your friends and family, and hang out with some cool reptiles. Sadly, if you fall in love with one of the reptiles you can’t bring it home because none of the animals are for sale.
Who knows, maybe the fest will inspire you to go out and buy a cool boa constrictor. I’m only kidding… or am I?
