About Old Town Ale House

Recognized as one of the best bars in the world by Roger Ebert, Old Town Ale House is a historic pub located on North Avenue by The Second City. Its legendary status has resulted in notable guests such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Anthony Bourdain, and frequent visitor Michael Shannon. Opened in 1961, the bar is now owned by Bruce Elliot, a lifelong regular who has decorated the interior with quirky original paintings. The vintage cash-only bar has just one TV and their famous jukebox plays an eclectic mix of jazz, blues, and classical music. Old Town Ale House is one of the neighborhood’s most historic and timeless establishments.
