To state the obvious, New York City is big – and there’s lots of people living in it. There’s got to be a reason that so many people choose to live in this massive jungle. Well… because it’s the best city in the world.
We all knew that. Even millions of people who live outside of it would agree. And it seems that this notion has been confirmed by WalletHub, who recently released a study on the best big cities in the U.S. to live in.
After noticing a nationwide trend in growth of large cities at up to twice that of the previous decade, WalletHub examined 62 of the largest cities in the country to find which are more favored. Even amidst higher living costs in our day and age, people still flock to big cities for more varied entertainment and access to better career opportunities. But what really makes people pull the trigger to move, and more so, what makes them stay?
Factors analyzed in this study included affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life, and safety. Even though it’s #1 in our hearts, NYC ranked in at 11th place. Contributing to its overall score, New York City ranked at the very bottom for Affordability at 62 (surprise, surprise), 36 for Economy, 36 for Education and Health, 2 for Quality of Life (damn right…), and impressively, 1 for Safety (when you’re surrounded by people every second of the day, it’s hard not to feel safe).
Other rankings were included in the study, within which New York City placed in the top five highest housing costs, top five lowest home ownership rate, top five most restaurants and coffee shops per capita, and the very top in best walk score.
