About Green Door Tavern
Legend says that The Green Door Tavern is the oldest drinking establishment in the whole of Chicago. Housed in a building erected in 1872, this bar and grill officially opened its doors when in 1921 during the height of prohibition. The tavern’s eponymous green door was said to have indicated that alcohol was sold on the premises. To this day, The Green Day Tavern also houses a secret speakeasy in its basement called The Drifter. Stop by this historic Chicago joint for a sports bar like feel in the heart of one of the city’s swankiest neighborhoods.
