Get On Your Feet!

A week ago, you could count me among the people who were sure to miss the Book of Mormon. The play had such a great run in Chicago, and I figured we wouldn’t be able to find another great musical for quite awhile.

Well, On Your Feet is sure to sweep you off your feet. (Just go with it.)

As the newest show to make a splash on the scene, On Your Feet portrays the lives of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, going far beyond just their musical careers. The story is beautifully written, and it’s depicted in a wonderful fashion.

For those that don’t know, Emilio is the high-profile producer behind a plethora of big name acts like Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Shakira. Gloria, of course, is one of the best-selling singers of all time. Something else you might not know, the two were a true rags to riches tale, and they followed the American Dream to make it big. The pair overcame plenty of adversity along the way, including Gloria’s potentially paralyzing broken back in 1990.

Of course, with musicals come music, and there are plenty of hits to go around. Songs include, Rhythm is Gonna Get You, Conga, Get On Your Feet, Don’t Want to Lose You Now, 1-2-3, and Coming Out of the Dark. You won’t believe the performers’ voices either.

You’ll dance, you’ll cry, you’ll sing, and you’ll laugh. It’s that good.
