About Chicago Maritime Museum
Chicago’s maritime tradition dates back several centuries. Acting as the link between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, the area has been an essential trading hub since at least the 1700s. The Chicago Maritime Museum tells the chronological history of Chicago’s waterways through the eras of fur trading, steamships, modern commercial freighters, and more. The Chicago Maritime Society began collecting artifacts, models, and historical documents in the 1980s, and the museum opened in Bridgeport Art Center in 2016. Located along the Chicago River, The Chicago Maritime Museum gives a unique viewpoint of the city’s history.
