Many of the artists from this style such as Tatsuro Yamashita, and Mariya Takeuchi have recently gone on to reclaim worldwide fame, with online algorithms pushing their hits to the ears of new audiences everywhere. Once only available to affluent Japanese socialites in the 80s who craved cosmopolitan lifestyles to match their new era of wealth and prosperity, this genre has now spread online and off, becoming accessible to all and creating a resurgence of popularity for the style globally almost half a century since its inception.
