It’s Gallagher season again, everyone! So, what were you doing Sunday night when it was on? Wherever you were, here’s what you missed on the season eight premiere of Shameless.
Carl is up and at ‘em at 5:30am and ready to take on the day. He wants to stay with his military training, everyone else be damned. He’s got his Monica meth money and he’s got a new, giant hot tub to luxuriate it.
Debbie is fully immersed in her welding apprenticeship and has a no nonsense attitude about her parking garage job. Debbie is woman, HEAR HER ROAR. She’s on a mission and her Monica money is helping her get there.
Poor Liam is being the token minority at his private school. He’s the “diversity” the school preaches and he’s getting tired of it. He didn’t get any Monica money because he’s a child. Even though he really wants a cut. Poor kid.
Fiona is tired of sleeping around via Tinder, so she’s decided to throw herself fully into the new building she bought and renting out the empty unit. She meets with one of the tenants, Nessa (played by Jessica Szohr, who also played Vanessa on Gossip Girl) and it looks like a promising new friendship! A bidding war goes down for the unit and Fiona is feeling confident in her new venture despite the less-than-desirable neighborhood.
Ian is now back as an EMT and is starting to get a little stalker-y with Trevor, the guy running the youth shelter. Ian suggests casually swinging by to hand out condoms, but really he’s trying to get back in Trevor’s good graces. Guess we’ll have to see how that pans out. But Ian seems to be on a good path, and isn’t that what we want for our favorite South Siders?
But Lip? On a good path, not so much. Sure, he’s sticking with his job at the bike shop and his sobriety, but he’s still so hung up on Sierra that it’s starting to get to him. He even pays her outstanding electrical bills and offers to watch Lucas! Come on, dude. Move on, you know? He does take his Monica money to pay his professor back for rehab, so that’s a step in the right direction.
Kev and Vee are still struggling post Svetlana and they learn that she’s now turning the bar into a Russian circus. Vee gets the idea to call immigration on her when Svetlana says she won’t give the bar back and who knows how that’s going to backfire. And even though Kev is still working at the gay bar, a man tells him he has a lump in his chest. Is more bad news on the way for our favorite couple?
So, what did we think of the season premiere, everyone? Was it a good icebreaker or are we worried about our favorite band of misfits? Is Kev going to be okay? Is Liam going to lose his marbles and get thrown out of prep school? Will Ian and Trevor find that spark again? And what on Earth is Carl going to do with his new military background?
