For Austin typically being known as the more artsy, hippie city of Texas, one event that Austin has that is truly Texas is Rodeo Austin. Every year for two weeks, rodeo stars and fans flock to Austin to watch riders wrangle and compete. Attend Rodeo Austin on March 10 – 25, 2023, at 9100 Decker Lake Road.
What is Rodeo Austin?
Rodeo Austin is an exhibition where rodeo stars come to compete in a ton of traditional rodeo events. It takes place for two weeks in March where every night there are two hours of rodeo events to watch where top athletes attend, compete and are ranked. Along with the rodeo events, there is music, food, drinks and a ton of other entertainment surrounding this long-standing event.
Obviously, the main attraction at Rodeo Austin are the actual rodeo events that are featured. You can expect to see bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and of course bull riding.
When you’re not watching a rodeo event or want a more family-friendly option, Rodeo Austin also includes a full carnival inclusive of rides, games and all the treats you can imagine. Tickets to the carnival are separate from the rodeo.
Every night after the rodeo events there is a live music performance where people can not only listen and enjoy but includes tons of dancing. Some artists that are included this year are Flo Rida, Sugar Ray, Aaron Watson and a lot more.
Not only do you get to see bulls and horses during the main attraction but there are many livestock shows where you can view horses and other prized animals. There is a petting zoo as well as educational opportunities for kids and adults.
Food and Drink
Rodeo Austin does not disappoint when it comes to traditional indulgent Texas food. They cover all your favorites like barbecue, grilled meats and all the sugary and fried foods you expect at a carnival.
