Cheer Up Charlie’s

A night out at queer-friendly Cheer Up Charlie’s has endless possibilities. Between themed music nights to drag shows to live DJs spinning electro-pop dance beats, this open-air space tucked into the north end of the Red River District is always good for a night of dancing.

Barbarella

Barbarella is a popular destination for dancing in Austin. Their legendary Tuesgayz spearheaded by the bar’s part-owner Glitoris is always a great place to meet other queers for pop hits. Jimmy Eat Wednesdays gathers rebel kids for a punk themed dance night. There’s also Y2K Thursdays and 80s Fridays, so there’s always something new to dance to.

Outer Heaven

1808 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702

This disco club has some of the best dance hits in Austin. For a night out full of dancing, consider the self-described “pirate ship in a sea of capitalist scumbags” and the last real bar in Austin. Karaoke nights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, followed by dancing on the weekends.

White Horse

If you’re looking for a lowkey honky tonk for two-steppin’, White Horse is the place to go. This East side tavern is a sweet Austin staple. Not sure how to two-step yet? Get a free lesson every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7 pm.

This 4th Street gay club is always a good time. Stocked with drag queens, male dancers, and plenty of sweaty bodies, Rain plays hard electro-pop hits to get you moving all night long.

The coolest rooftop club in Austin, Coconut Club plays groovy beats all weekend. Completely open air on the 4th Street block, this tropical-themed nightclub hosts drag queens, day-time marketplaces, and good vibes at night.

Broken Spoke

For some great live music and boot-scootin’, head to Broken Spoke, Austin’s OG two-step bar. Known for bringing in legends like Garth Brooks and even the Queer Eye crew, Broken Spoke is still as cool as its ever been. Two-step and swing lessons are every Wednesday – Saturday at 8 pm.
