The Statesman Capitol 10k is the largest 10k race in Texas. What started with 3,400 participants in 1978 is now one of the Top 10 largest 10k races in the entire nation. It doesn’t matter if you’re a running fanatic, just enjoy it leisurely, or merely beginning your running journey, you have this race circled on your calendar every year. The Capitol 10k almost like the premiere event to signal the beginning of spring in Austin.
The 2022 Statesman Cap10K supports the Mike & Sherry Project, an organization with a mission to provide accessible mental health care to individuals working in the ATX hospitality, restaurant, and bar industries. Whether you’re pushing for a personal high, utilizing it for a stroll with friends or family, or in it to win it, it’s a must-run for all. Here’s everything you need to know about the 45th Statesman Capitol 10k.
When is the race?
The Statesman Capitol 10k takes place on April 10th, 2022 at 8am CST. That’s this Sunday.
Where is the race?
Austin, Texas, obviously. But according to the official course site, runners gather each year on the Congress Avenue Bridge stretching over Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake, Colorado River, whatever you call it to feel superior) just after sunrise to celebrate the tradition spanning 45 years. You can learn the history and other facts and intricacies about the full course here.
Can I still register?
Yes! You can register up until Saturday, April 9th. There is a $60 rate for adults and $50 for youth. Though time is running out, as all participants are required to pick up their race participant packets at the Health & Fitness Expo in the Palmer Events Center on April 8th and April 9th.
I’m not racing… is there anything else going on there?
We’ve already mentioned the Health & Fitness Expo going on, but there is a ton of family-friendly activities going on all weekend for those coming out in support, and not racing, or simply for the festivities. There’s a costume contest and a pasta night out. But the real draw for the crowds is all of the live music both along the course line and during the Finish Line Festival at the Main Event Lawn (900 W. Riverside Dr. Austin, TX 78704).
The full list of acts and where along the route they’ll be playing can be found here.
In total, the Statesman Capitol 10K is one of those uniquely Austin events that may seem like just another race to the rest of the country but is so much more to those who come out and participate in the weekend festivities. We’ll see you out there!
