East Austin is always buzzing with restaurant-goers, either checking out that exciting place that just opened or visiting a reliable favorite. The area features tons of global cuisines — it’s like you’re taking a mini vacation to some of the best restaurants in the world every time you venture out! Here are our favorite restaurants to visit in East Austin.
Nasha
1614 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78702
Nasha is a spectacular Indian restaurant right on the East Side. They have all the curries we know and love, plus a little something extra — some Tex Mex fusion. Honestly, if you haven’t yet tried “tikka masala but make it enchiladas,” you’re missing out!
Spartan Pizza
1007 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702
Everyone needs a great pizza spot, and Spartan’s New York-style specialty pizza hits all the right notes. All of their sauces are made in house, and their dough recipe has been perfected over their five years as one of the best restaurants in East Austin! Plus all of the pizza names are really fun — Zeus, Medusa, Perseus… it goes on.
Kebabalicious
1311 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78702
Kebabalicious is a popular restaurant on the East Side of Austin for Turkish döner kebabs. They also often have live music going on, making it a super fun place to take your time.
Oseyo
1628 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
Oseyo opened back in 2019 and has been serving up exceptional Korean food ever since. The whole restaurant is cute and cozy, which is perfectly mirrored by the home-style cooking going on in the kitchen. It’s a great spot for brunch or dinner with friends.
Gyu-Kaku
1211 E 5th St Suite 100, Austin, TX 78702
Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese BBQ chain with restaurants all over the world, and just last year, our very own opened up in East Austin. Their main focus is “yakiniku,” or grilled meat, and it’s similar to many of the Korean BBQ restaurants around town in that you grill your meats and veggies at the table, but the flavor profiles are very different.
la Barbecue
2401 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
Not only one of the best restaurants in East Austin, la Barbecue has some of the best BBQ in Austin, period. Their meats are locally sourced, and smoked low and slow for something like 16 hours! It really does just melt in your mouth.
Juniper
2400 E Cesar Chavez St UNIT 304, Austin, TX 78702
Juniper is a snazzy li’l Italian restaurant with seasonally rotating prix fixe dinner and brunch menus. At dinner you’ll be able to enjoy a spectacular five-course meal with delicate appetizers right through to classic Italian desserts.
Hillside Farmacy
1209 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702
Hillside Farmacy makes its home in a gorgeous building from the 1950s that was recently dedicated a Texas Historical Landmark. Back in the ’50s it was a drugstore, and it’s still operated by the same family. If you are searching for the best restaurants in Austin, Hillside Farmacy offers delicious farm-to-table foods to guests.
