7 Beautiful Suburbs to Visit Near Austin, TX

In the last decade or so, Austin has exploded; everywhere you look, there’s something new. It’s certainly exciting, but for some, it’s a little much. But living in the Austin suburbs doesn’t mean you’ll miss out! These areas are experiencing a lot of their own growth, and remain close enough to Austin that enjoying the city is as easy as hopping on a highway.

Round Rock

Round Rock has become a spectacular place to call home. It’s quiet, but not too quiet, many Austin-based restaurants have locations here, and the downtown area is bustling with music, markets, and art. Everything is very family-oriented, with great schools, lots of activities, and the safest city ranking in all of Texas.

Georgetown

Georgetown has been quaint and cozy for ages. This suburb near Austin, Texas has a picturesque square filled with old buildings wrapping around town hall. In wintertime there is a little Christmas market with lots of activities for adults and children alike, and plenty of decorations.

Pflugerville

Pflugerville is very close to Austin, making it ideal for people who want all the excitement of the city, combined with quiet suburban living. There are plans to build an area much like the Domain, but until then you can enjoy scenic trails and a variety of so-called “Pfestivals.”

Leander

Leander is a fantastic suburb near Austin to raise a family. It’s like living in the country, only near plenty of amenities. There are good schools and over 10 city parks. Not to mention annual festivals with plenty of kid-specific activities. Quiet with a strong sense of community, what’s not to love?

Jonestown

Jonestown is a quirky little city that’s not particularly well-known, but a great place to live. It’s very quiet and definitely further out from Austin. However, many residents enjoy lakefront living, plus tons of parks and forested areas.

Lakeway

Lakeway is an absolutely gorgeous suburb to live in. You’re in the Hill Country, right on the Colorado River — essentially surrounded by nature at every turn. The area honestly feels like a retreat with great schools and a location still close enough to Austin to enjoy everything the city has to offer.

Buda

Buda is a suburb south of Austin and has that classic Texas feel. It’s small, but its low crime rate, good schools, and close proximity to Austin make it a great suburb to live. Being on the south side also means you’re a lot closer to fun cities like San Antonio and New Braunfels!
