We can’t deny that the holidays have been weird, and not at all how anyone planned. But if you’ve been feeling like Scrooge, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve found some of not only the safest, but also the most festive things to do this holiday season that are sure to have you giddy with holiday cheer.
The Trail of Lights
2100 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78746
Walking the Trail of Lights has been an Austin holiday tradition for as long as we can remember. There was much concern that it wouldn’t happen. But it is! This time, you’ll be in your car instead of on foot, so bring some snacks and hot cocoa, hop in your car, and enjoy the lights!
Peppermint Parkway
9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd, Austin, TX 78617
You’ll be on the F1 race track, but you won’t want to speed past these amazing light displays – holiday villages, light sculptures, and more! You’ll also be able to visit Circuit of the Americas Land with a kiddie amusement park and food.
Luminations
4801 La Crosse Ave, Austin, TX 78739
These lights may not be Christmas-themed, but you’re sure to feel festive after a trip to Luminations! For the first time ever you’ll be able to stroll through their arboretum and enjoy the beautifully lit paths. Great for a cozy christmas date, or some family time.
Mozart’s
3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, TX 78703
This one’s another classic. Every year, basically the entire city flocks to Mozart’s for their incredible light show. Because of this, they’re taking loads of precautions. Tables can seat parties up to 6 people and are all spaced 6 feet apart. You’ll have a 1-hour time slot to see the show and staff will escort everyone in and out of the patio.
Winter Wanderland
1220 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
Yet another classic Austin Christmas location, Winter Wanderland at the Austin Motel is in full swing. The courtyard is fully decked in holiday cheer, and you’ll find tons of festive drinks and snacks like hot chocolate (boozy and non-alcoholic) and fresh pretzels.
Geraldine’s: South Pole
605 Davis St, Austin, TX 78701
Geraldine’s is once again doing their festive pop-up cocktail bar! They’re offering tickets for tables to ensure social distancing, though this event is indoors. Each ticket comes with 4 craft holiday cocktails per person. Even better, you’ll be able to toast s’mores at your table!
Miracle on 5th
307 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78701
Miracle may be one of the most festive places around, and the Christmas nostalgia is real. There are multiple bars serving some of the wackiest, yet tastiest festive cocktails. Reservations are required to ensure distanced seating as this is also indoors; you can also order all of the cocktails to go!
