Beautiful scenery isn’t the only reason to visit the Texas Hill Country, rather, what better way to enjoy it than at one of the literally hundreds of wineries you can find nestled into the rolling hills. It’s nearly impossible to go wrong when picking a winery to visit, and conveniently you’ll find loads right off Texas Highway 290 — often referred to as Wine Road 290, and it’s the perfect place to start your winery visit! Here’s our take on some of the best wineries in the Texas Hill Country.
Signor Vineyards
362 Livesay Ln, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Signor Vineyards is a favorite of many, situated on 200 acres, the winery is one of the largest — and most beautiful — around. With all that room, they have stunning French-country style gardens you can stroll through while you sip on some of their award-winning Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, among many other styles.
Pontotoc Vineyard
320 W Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
At Pontotoc you’ll find a rich history of German/Austrian immigration to Texas dating as far back as 1872! The traditional weinhalle and weingarten are now refurbished, but remain in their original style. Here they specialize in vintage wines specifically, using grapes grown only in the Texas Hill Country.
Adega Vinho

For a little slice of Portugal in Texas, look no further than Adega Vinho. Meaning “Wine Cellar” in Portuguese, this winery uses Texas Hill Country grapes to create traditional wines in Portuguese and Spanish styles.
Calais Winery

Benjamin Calais originally hails from France, and strives to combine his French heritage with that Texas-feel in every bottle. At Calais, they are most known for producing incredible red wines made from 100-percent Texas grapes in the Bordeaux style.
Becker Vineyards
464 Becker Farms Rd, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Becker Vineyards is located on a beautiful estate complete with lavender fields and grassy acres just begging for picnics. They mainly produce wines in the Bordeaux, Burgundian, and Rhone style. On top of their regular tastings they also have a Library, which features a private wine selection.
Duchman Family Winery

At Duchman the focus is predominately on Italian grape varieties, and the tasting room feels very much like an Italian villa – including a delightful Italian restaurant, Trattoria Lisina, right next door! Beyond the tasting room, you can enjoy your wine beneath the shade of oak trees on over 40 acres.
Texas Wine Collective

Texas Wine Collective is three excellent wineries all in one location: Brennan Vineyards, Lost Oak Winery, and McPherson Cellars. Here there are loads of varieties and styles of wine, and it’s a great place to try a little of everything!
