Enter the Multiverse at This Mesmerizing Art & Lights Show

Pop-up art installations that are more abstract in concept have gained immense popularity over the past few years. We’ve seen Wonderspaces take over Austin, watched 29Rooms and wndr museum invade Chicago, but nothing hits quite like the trippy, otherworldly light show that glows in Austin’s newest art experience, Mesmerize, hosted by The Native Hostel.

Located at 807 E 4th St, a perfect distance between Lady Bird Lake and the State Capitol, is The Native Hostel, East Austin’s secret gem for the millennial traveler. The Native Hostel is known for its multifaceted entertainment, serving Austin first as an upscale hostel, then restaurant and bar, then a venue. That’s where Mesmerize comes in.

You’re expected to keep your mind wide open as you step through the front doors, leave earth, and enter the multiverse. The theme calls you to be aware of parallel dimensions as you follow a fictitious character, Mesmer, through a cosmic exploration of the idea that we are not alone. Mesmer has seen the other side and left the door open for you to follow. Mesmerize invites you to get lost in this narrative interstellar adventure, designed to entertain both kids and adults.

According to the Mesmerize website, “We create multisensory environments that connect people and spread joy. To us, art is more than an object. It’s a universal symbol of happiness, a vehicle for imaginative wonder, and a powerful force to bring people together.”

Instagrammers have taken an unsurprising interest in Mesmerize for its many photogenic rooms. The exposition even encourages “trippy ‘fits” and creativity on all levels of the experience. And boy, do people deliver.

Tickets to Mesmerize are $25 for a 1-hour timed adult entry and free for children under 3 years old. If you buy tickets ahead of time, make sure you’re on time to keep the flow of traffic! You are allowed to go at your own pace, but must be mindful of others and wear a mask at all times.
