Austin Humane Society has been working to find dogs and cats their perfect homes since 1952! Making it the longest running pet adoption shelter in Austin. They typically don’t have too many cats or dogs available at one time so you’ll really have to be proactive in finding your furry friend here – but we’re just happy there are so many adoptions!
Austin Pets Alive!

Austin Pets Alive often has a pretty large selection of cats and dogs, and on rare occasions they have rabbits and birds that are available for adoption. They strive to place as many of their pets in foster homes as possible, which means lots of information on their behavior! APA! also has a barn cat program for those cats that may not do the best in a traditional home, but still need a loving place to call their own.
Austin Animal Center

Austin Animal Center is massive, taking care of more than 16,000 animals every year! They’re open to caring for any animal, not just cats and dogs (really, they even have some pigs and rabbits) and with so many to meet, you’re sure to find the one for you. They work to find homes for their animals, prevent future homelessness, and encourage responsible pet ownership.

Texas Humane Heroes bring dogs and cats in from overcrowded shelters and help find them their forever homes. On top of rehoming, this shelter in Austin, Texas offers low-cost clinic services to help make pet ownership and adoption more affordable! You can also find them partnered with a pumpkin patch in the fall to help support their animals.
Gold Ribbon Rescue

Gold Ribbon is specifically a rescue for golden retrievers. There aren’t often many available, but if you’re looking for the specific breed this is a great place! Often something happens with previous owners making them unable to care for their dog any longer, but the dogs themselves are wonderful.
House Rabbit Resource Network

House Rabbit Resource Network is the only pet adoption shelter in Austin dedicated to all things rabbits. They help match rabbits with new owners, as well as educating people about caring for rabbits responsibly. As house rabbits, they’re bigger than the typical bunny, and are wonderful companions.
