The Pecan Street Festival is back! The free two-day arts festival that’s held bi-annually in the historic Sixth Street district of downtown returns May 7 – 8, 2022, to showcase artists of all types.
The Pecan Street Festival usually takes place on the first weekend of May in the spring and the last weekend in September in the fall. Hundreds and hundreds of talented artists, both local and national, gravitate toward Sixth Street to exhibit their original works that vary from metal, wood, fiber, leather, clay, glass, stone, and recycled materials of all types.
But not only is it the perfect showcase for top artists, it’s a weekend of food, fun, congregation, music, and family activity to celebrate spring in Austin.
In total, nearly 50 local music acts will perform, 30-plus food vendors will be present, and kid-friendly activities such as street magicians, petting zoos, carnival rides, and face painting is there to promote family fun.
Now, if you’re looking for the same vibes as Eeyore’s Birthday Party, you might be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a damn good street festival with a ton to offer every walk of life then this is the one for you.
Attendees are diverse and that’s the best part. Do you want to buy some art and stuff your face with a funnel cake? You can do that. Want to keep the wallet in your pocket, that’s fine too. It’s free and you can simply come to walk around and enjoy the weather and listen to live music from local up and coming artists. I personally love grabbing myself a fresh-squeezed lemonade and heading over to Trinity Street to listen to the latest local act.
For nearly three decades, Austinites have been able to enjoy this iconic festival twice a year and 2022 is primed to be the best one yet. It has been managed and run by Special Events Live since 2006. So come on out to Sixth Street this weekend and enjoy a beautiful weekend supporting local artists, musicians, food vendors and more with your friends, family, self, dog, or random strangers you met on Rainey last weekend.
Will we see you there? Sure hope so!
