The Driskill, built by cattle baron Colonel Jesse Driskill in 1886, has been the site of some pretty memorable celebrations. Less than 2 weeks after it opened, the hotel hosted its first inaugural ball from the new Texas governor. The Driskill was home to President Johnson and First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, during the 1950s and 60s. The hotel boasts eight gold leaf framed Austrian mirrors once belonging to Emperor Maximillian and his wife Carlotta. A wedding gift from Maximillian to Carlotta, the mirrors now adorn the Maximillion Room, a 1,500-square-foot event space.
There are over 18,000 square feet of beautiful flexible meeting spaces for conferences, events and weddings, with a host of different gorgeous rooms and venues for the big day: Driskill Ballroom, Victorian Room, Crystal Room, Maximillion Room. Each room is a time capsule in history. Brides and grooms and their history buff friends can also book a history tour or enjoy Afternoon Tea.
