Getaway for a weekend. We decided to gather a list of the best day trips from Phoenix that are less than 4 hours away. The current state of reality has been rough. Luckily, we have plenty of beautiful places near the Valley to hide for a weekend.
Grand Canyon
Drive Time: 3.5 hrs
Grand Canyon is definitely the #1 day trip destination near Phoenix. It is breathtaking year-round and the national park offers you amenities that will make your trip more enjoyable. Be sure to check with the Park page for any alerts and closures in advance.
Sedona
Drive Time: 2 hrs
Most Sedona attractions and businesses are open following CDC guidelines, so you can expect a fruitful day trip from Phoenix if you choose to come here. With over 400 miles of trails in total and a town full of unique eateries and bars, we guarantee you will not want to leave when Monday arrives.
Montezuma Castle National Monument
Montezuma Castle Rd, Camp Verde, AZ

Can you imagine living inside a cliff? The Montezuma Castle is a must-go if you’ve never been there. This old relic is a residence carved directly into a limestone cliff by the native American tribe Sinagua. The Montezuma Castle was also one of the first national monuments in the United States.
Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest National Park has trails for all levels of hikers. If you’re looking for the best day trips near Phoenix, the trails at this park will take you through all the wonders created by rock formations and desert botanicals. You may even be lucky enough to see the exotic animals that reside there. And did we mention the park encourages you to go with your dogs?
Kartchner Caverns
2980 S Hwy 90 Benson, AZ 85602
Drive Time: 2.5 hrs
If you want something different from the desert, mountain, or the outdoors in general, you will enjoy the cool and mysterious exploration Kartchner Caverns offer. Kartchner has the largest cavern systems in the states containing “living” limestone formations. Be sure to check on their tour schedule in advance since each guided tour is 1.5 hours long.
Meteor Crater
Interstate 40, Exit, 233, Winslow, AZ 86047
Drive Time: 2 hrs 45 min
Have you heard? Meteor Crater is expecting to reopen on Monday, November 23rd! This will be their first time opening back up since the pandemic. The Meteor Crater is nearly one mile in diameter and is more than 550 ft deep. Visit all three lookout points or spend your entire day trip at the RV Park and explore nearby sceneries. Whatever you do, the Meteor Crater will be an experience you never forget.
