On Friday, The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman took the internet by storm after he announced his split from Deborra-Lee Furness. The statement was shared with People Magazine stating that the former couple is separating after nearly 3 decades of a happy and loving marriage.
Furthermore, the statement read, “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Hugh Jackman Admits To Facing Difficult Time
Later, the actor was spotted in NYC on Saturday sporting a black t-shirt and dark jeans where he was approached by a reporter who enquired about his thoughts on the split. However, the 54-year-old was limited when sharing his thoughts and said, “I don’t feel quite right talking about it on the street.”
The Primetime Emmy Award winner also added that it is a difficult time for him. When asked about Deadpool 3’s status which is currently on hold due to the WGA strike, the actor mentioned he has no idea about it and will know more after he gets back to work which would be soon.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra Met On A TV Show Set
Back in 1995, the former couple met on the set of Correlli, a drama show by ABC TV. At the time, Furness was an established actress on the other hand, Jackman was just starting his career. In an interview, the actor admitted that this meeting was love at first sight, and two weeks into meeting Deborra, he knew he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life.
After dating for almost a year, the couple finally got married in 1996 and later welcomed their son Oscar in 2000 and daughter Ava in 2005.
The news of their separation comes as a surprise to many fans as the former couple was spotted together in May at the Met Gala 2023 followed by another appearance in the Wimbledon Men’s Finals in July 2023.
Back in April, Hugh also shared a beautiful post on Instagram on their 27th wedding anniversary with a caption that stated, “I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage, and loyalty are an incredible gift to me.”
Hugh Jackman Has New Projects Lined Up For Future
On the work front, Hugh Jackman is all set to reprise his role as the famous Wolverine. He is to appear in James Howlett’s Deadpool 3. Talking about his character, Jackman said that his role would have a “fight dynamic” with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool character. This would add comic relief to the movie. Additionally, the actor is also a part of a 2024 movie titled The Amateur. Earlier, it was reported that Jackman would play the lead in this movie. However, later, it was confirmed that Rami Malek would play the lead. Currently, it is unclear what Jackman’s role in this thriller movie will be.
