Netflix’s upcoming reality show based on the popular series Squid Game finally has a premiere date. Ever since the reality show started filming, it has been under constant scrutiny both by Netflix subscribers and the show’s participants. The reality show, which has been dubbed as the biggest to date, was criticized for the pathetic filming conditions and real-life injuries.
Squid Game: The Challenge Will Also Feature New Concepts
Just like the original Korean series, this reality game show features 456 contestants not just from Korea but all over the world. These contestants go head-to-head against each other in the games similar to that of the show. However, it will also feature new concepts different from the original show. Not just that, the show, to ensure its authenticity, has the contestants wearing green & white tracksuits featuring numbers. On the other hand, the guards also dress in their standard red suits & black masks while staying mum all the time.
Yet, the contestants participating in the show spoke out against the inhumane filming conditions on the set. They reported that they had to film with bare minimum clothes in extremely cold weather. Due to this, several contestants required medical attention and couldn’t perform. There were also reports of people fainting on set due to cold and exhaustion. Some contestants also complained of the makers favoring contestants who were paid to participate.
Furthermore, contestants revealed that they were left freezing inside the Bedford airplane hangar. This happened when they were playing a game that asked them to hold pose like a statue for 30 minutes straight. According to reports, the organizers informed that they would shoot these games for at most an hour or two. However, it lasted for more than 6 to 7 hours, which proved too demanding for contestants exposed to cold temperatures.
Netflix Confirms Squid Game: The Challenge Premiere Date
Back in June 2022, Netflix’s VP Of Unscripted And Documentary Series, Brandon Riegg, announced this reality spinoff. This happened after the original show became popular with a globally following.
Squid Game: The Challenge’s official logline reads:
“Though the reality version of ‘Squid Game‘ isn’t a matter of life or death, there’s still a lot on the line. 456 players will compete to win $4.56 million, the largest cash prize in reality television history. Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies, and timely betrayals to follow.”
Now, Netflix has confirmed the premiere date for its game show in a post on X (previously Twitter). Along with an exciting new trailer, the post revealed that the show will premiere on November 22, 2023. The trailer comprised of scenes from several games featured in the original show. This includes the Red Light-Green Light game and the Glass Bridge.
