No Elvis Music in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley Biopic.

Sofia Coppola’s upcoming masterpiece, Priscilla, based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir has a twist that is sure to pique your curiosity. As per reports, the movie won’t feature any of Elvis’ music from his iconic collection. This is surprising given that Elvis Presley is a big part of the movie. So, why won’t the biopic feature any of Elvis’ music? Keep reading to find out the details!

Delving into the fascinating world of Priscilla Presley, this movie is a cinematic depiction of the 78-year-old actress’ memoir named Elvis And Me. However, the absence of Elvis’ music might not affect the depiction of the complex relationship between Priscilla and her husband Elvis. The couple first met at a party in Germany which was organized by Elvis. At the time at age 24, he served in the military and was a popular superstar. On the other hand, Priscilla was just a young 14-year school girl.

Priscilla Presley’s Biopic Is Different Than The 2022 Elvis Movie

While the movie does focus a lot on their relationship, it doesn’t necessarily sugar-coat the events. The biopic does showcase the iconic star as a successful manipulator in the case of his relationship with Priscilla. This is the very reason Presley’s estate didn’t support the upcoming movie. More so, they denied the authorization to use his music in the biopic.

In comparison, the movie Elvis by Baz Luhrmann released in 2022, received an approval from Elvis’ estate. With Austin Butler in the lead, the movie depicted Elvis more in a positive light. Moreover, he was also depicted as his management’s victim. The Luhrmann movie focused primarily on the singer’s career while showcasing a tiny portion of his relationship with Priscilla Presley. On the other hand, the Coppola movie focuses primarily on Elvis and Priscilla’s chaotic marriage.

Priscilla Presley Served As The Biopic’s Executive Producer

Throughout the making of the upcoming biopic, Priscilla Presley played a significant role. Moreover, she also served as the movie’s executive producer. And, this makes sense given she is the primary character in the movie and her input is crucial at every step of filming. As per Coppola, Priscilla has been very warm and supportive towards Cailee Spaeny who plays her character in the biopic.

She also shared, “It’s amazing how much detail Priscilla can recall from that time of her life.”

Although the movie does showcase how troubled Priscilla’s life is, she doesn’t want viewers to think that she is just another victim. The actress explained that there is more to her tale which viewers might be able to see via her upcoming movie.

Talking about Elvis, Priscilla mentioned, “He was the love of my life,” clarifying that hers was simply a difficult marriage.

The movie was originally scheduled for an October release. However, now, the date has been postponed to November 3, 2023.
