She had been experiencing burnout, so she decided to step away from the stage. Elle Woods, the main character, was played by the understudy Hannah Lowther.
Lowther, a well-known TikTok influencer with 1.3 million followers, is said to be experiencing backstage drama. Some of her colleagues are convinced that she is “a million times better” than Davies, as per Daily Mail+.
After the show, Davies updated her fans on Instagram about her health, stating that she had been pushing herself too hard switching from role to role in The Great Gatsby, Strictly, and Legally Blonde, and it had worn her down. She said that she is taking antibiotics and will not be performing for an indefinite period, but she also refrained from commenting on her mid-show exit or Lowther.

Amber explained her absence in a post on Instagram:
“Ok update: After talking to my doctor, being on antibiotics and trying to recover whilst doing shows is getting me and my health NOWHERE… There is a chronic illness that has been with me for a month and I am going to have to be off again from my beautiful Elle Woods… This is the last thing I want but there is no other way. If I continue to push through, I might end up struggling with this longer than necessary. I am so looking forward to my next performance and being myself again!!! Thanks – Amber x.”
Afterwards, she posted another one:
“Plus it’s not like I just popped from Gatsby, Strictly last minute and then Elle so obviously my body’s fighting for its life… I also keep telling myself it is okay to be sick, man are human. Just a warning there is never really a moment to be ill in the life of a musical theatre performer.”

Fans have flooded TikTok with praises for Hannah Lowther, who replaced the act of Elle Woods during a recent Legally Blonde performance, after Amber Davies fell ill. Along with the clip, the user explained: “Today, sadly, Amber Davies was taken ill during the show so Hannah Lowther had to change from Margot to Elle! I am a fan of covers/swings/Alts.”
It’s said that Amber’s exit has led to a worsening of relations between her and Hannah, as the latter usually takes covers for the Thursday matinee while Amber does seven shows a week.
