Michael Barrymore at one time made a promise to himself that after all the controversies which surrounded him, he would start a new life by settling in Spain. Unfortunately, the dream of Barrymore to start a new life in Barcelona was short-lived as it planted a sour taste upon his arrival.
According to the Daily Mail, the 73-year-old former primetime TV star has totally reversed his decision and has plans of living in Devon permanently as he has already bought a ‘forever home’ there.
Barrymore took residence in a bungalow located in a fashionable town in the southern part of the county just two weeks ago. Since then, he has been posting snippets of his brand-new lifestyle on TikTok, such as videos of his house, selfies with locals, visits with his loyal whippet, Lara, to the nearby beaches, and frequent shopping excursions.

Michael Barrymore’s timber-clad, beach house style bungalow has exposed wooden beams sloping over a white kitchen worktop, which brings a warm and welcoming feel to the space.
On the outside, the bungalow features a small decking area that can be reached from both the master bedroom and living room. The estate agent calls it “a great space to entertain or just relax,” which is exactly what Barrymore will be doing with his fresh start.
Being one of the UK’s biggest stars at the time, Barrymore supposedly made £2 million a year from ITV. However, his career nearly 40 years has been marred by the death of Stuart Lubbock at his home in Essex in 2001. Barrymore was questioned by police but denied any role in the murder.
Nowadays, he has become a TikTok star and got a great number of young people following him. He told last year he was willing to leave UK and get a house with a garden near Barcelona because his dog Lara should see a new place. But he has later left there and is now living in Devon.

In March, Michael Barrymore surprised everyone when he suddenly gave up on his idea of retiring in Barcelona after getting mixed up with Spanish activists’ anti-tourism protests.
He was really upset and took a selfie video in the car in which he said, “I’m a complete mess, so homesick is the only word for it and I don’t even know what it means. I feel very insecure, constantly looking at the negatives because of my mood. I hate self pity, but what do I do? I pity myself. I have been doing that for a long time. I’m quite tired, I feel so unprepared and I even doubt whether we can do this.”
He continued, “Also I was very upset about giving up on the idea of moving to Barcelona, I even felt like I had disappointed so many people.”
After being mainly located in West London for a while, Barrymore has just bought a small two-bedroom, one-bath bungalow for £385,000 in a market town which is close to some of the most beautiful beaches of the country.
Michael Barrymore Describes Moving to Devon as ‘Traumatic’
Michael Barrymore talking about the move to Devon, in a video from his new place there, said it was “traumatic.”
“I’ve got loads of mixtures of emotions. Lara’s been brilliant, she loves it here. I’m very near the beaches, we’ve got lots of land around here,” he said. “This place needs a lot of doing up, I’m waiting for furniture to arrive.”
In a way, Barrymore felt like he had lost his way as he tries to get used to his new place. “It’s only recently that I realized how traumatic it can be. I’m sure it won’t take long to get around exactly where I am but if you see me come and say hello.”
He shared an amusing episode with his new neighbors as well. “When I arrived the neighbors were around within an hour or so with a bottle of something – I didn’t have the heart to tell them I don’t drink.”
Barrymore, opening up, said, “I’m scared, I’m frightened, I’m excited, I’m nervous. Being famous doesn’t get you away from emotions or feelings.”

Neighbours have already met Barrymore and shared their positive opinions. One neighbour said: “We first met him when he moved. He seems a nice guy. It’s a little bit of a shock to have someone who you watched on TV living so close but it seems he making friends and he’s well liked.”
In order to move, Barrymore had to bring down the price of his London flat by more than £100,000. Earlier this year, he dropped the price of his flat in Acton, West London from £600,000 to £475,000 because he couldn’t sell it.
