Sean Swayze, Patrick Swayze’s Brother, Dies at 63
Sean Swayze, the younger brother of the late Patrick Swayze, was 63 when he died.
His death certificate revealed to PEOPLE that Sean died in Los Angeles on December 15, 2025. Initially, the cause of death reported was an upper gastrointestinal bleed. However, further investigation showed that the cause was due to complications including “severe metabolic acidosis, esophageal varices, and alcoholic liver cirrhosis,” which were synonymous with the upper gastrointestinal bleed condition.
Sean was working as an entertainment Teamster at the time of his demise. He is left behind by his daughter, Cassie Swayze, and his son, Kyle Swayze.
Don Swayze Remembers Brother Sean as an “Amazing Athlete” and Marine
Don Swayze, the brother of Patrick and Sean, laid a tribute to his beloved brother’s life and his work in a letter to PEOPLE. “Sean was the baby of the family, and the second youngest child in the Swayze household,” Don explained. “He was one of five kids. Besides being an incredible athlete, Sean was also an ex-United States Marine, a husband, and a father of three.”
Don said that Sean still had been part of the family Hollywood legacy, in a way that he was a teamster in the film industry and he also was a member of the crew working with Patrick throughout their careers.
Unfortunately, Sean’s last years have been difficult. “Sean had been battling liver problems for about five years, and when he lost his wife two years ago, he just kept going downhill,” Don explained. “He was my last living close family member, and I will miss him to the point that my heart hurts when I think about the loss of him. Sean’s death will be mourned by everyone who knew him.”

Sean Swayze’s cousin, Rachel Leon, wrote a heartfelt Instagram message when he passed in December 2025. In it, she described Sean as one of those “always fun and full of life” people. She also shared a photo of Sean sporting a T-shirt for a Dirty Dancing event – a tribute her daughter came up with for their late cousin Patrick Swayze.
“We were just recently saying how he was going to come down to Texas and we would spend time together and I was really looking forward to it,” said Leon. “Our hearts and prayers are with Don, (Sean’s) brother, and (Sean’s) children. The whole family is in our prayers and we hope the healing light comes their way soon.”
Sean’s death occurred 16 years after the loss of his brother Patrick, the legendary star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost, who passed away at the age of 57 due to pancreatic cancer in 2009.

Patrick Swayze’s Widow Honors Him by Continuing the Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer
According to a statement made by a representative of Patrick Swayze to PEOPLE at the time, he died peacefully in 2009 after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Lisa Niemi Swayze, his widow, teamed up with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in 2024 to raise awareness and help increase funding for research into the disease.
“The reason I am connected to PanCAN is because I want to honor Patrick’s memory, I want to finish the fight that he struggled so hard, fought so hard to win,” Lisa told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “And just because he is not here, it doesn’t mean it’s all over, and I want to keep it going for him.”
