Nine million people in the US regularly vape, and that is a number that is growing by the year. Yet vaping is still a comparatively new activity, and different US states have different rules. For example, Connecticut has a statewide vaping ban in indoor spaces, while in Oklahoma, vaping is only prohibited in Department of Corrections facilities
The variation in rules becomes even more obvious when you travel beyond the USA. So for the benefit of those nine million and counting, here is a run-down of the most vape-friendly cities in the world.
What happens in Vegas
Staying within the US to start with, Las Vegas is the city where anything goes. If you’re out on The Strip or exploring Fremont Street, you can blow clouds to your heart’s content. Likewise, vaping in the city’s many casinos, bars and restaurants is completely acceptable. Of course, there are always a handful of exceptions to every rule, for example vaping is prohibited in most hotel rooms. If you see a sign saying vaping is prohibited, then respect it. But unless specifically indicated to the contrary, it is safe to assume that vaping is just fine throughout Sin City.
Sydney is Australia’s capital for partying and vaping
Australians are renowned for liking to party, but also for healthy living. The signage and the absence of ashtrays tells you all you need to know about their attitudes to lighting up, even in many outdoor areas. But with vapes, it is a different matter. There are no rules prohibiting vaping, at present, although the government is working with states to tighten up the sale of vapes. Right now, however, you can feel completely relaxed as you take in the sights, sounds and culinary delights of this incredible city.
Amsterdam’s coffee shops are a vaper’s oasis
We could spend an hour just talking about the coffee shop district in Amsterdam, where places like Gray Area and Barney’s are the stuff of legends. For our current purposes, however, suffice it to say vapers are welcomed in coffee shops and you’ll see them blowing clouds all around. In the rest of the city, you are fine vaping outside. Beyond those famous coffee shops, take the same approach as in Sydney and be guided by the signage.
Bars and cafes in Ho Chi Minh City welcome vapers
Still known to many as Saigon, Vietnam’s tourism capital welcomes all. There is a wonderful blend of the old and new here, as the ancient temples and markets coexist with modern hotels and shopping centers. The attitude to vaping is very relaxed, and unless you see signs expressly forbidding it, you are usually fine to enjoy your vape in public places, and that includes most bars and cafes. Some are quite crowded, so be respectful to non-vapers. A compact vape like a CCELL cartridge type, which sits into the palm of the hand, and smaller, more restrained clouds are the order of the day
Seattle’s easy going culture extends to vapes
Finally, we return to the US. The home of Starbucks, Seattle has always had a knack for bridging the gap between mainstream and alternative lifestyles. There is a refreshing absence of laws prohibiting either indoor or outdoor vaping, and the activity is popular among the city’s millennials. After all, a coffee and a vape is a combination that is hard to beat! Many of the city’s bars and restaurants are overtly vape-friendly, and at the last count, there were more than 50 vape shops spread throughout the city. So if you happen to run short on vape liquid, you won’t have to look far to top up!
