Disney+ has finally released an exciting new trailer for Percy Jackson & The Olympians series confirming its air date on the streamer. Ever since the series was greenlit by Disney, Gotham Group, and the 20th Television in January last year, fans have been waiting patiently for a premiere date. The series is based on a book by Rick Riordan sharing the same name.
However, this isn’t the first adaptation of the book. The story has inspired a total of two movies. The first movie released in 2010 shares the same name as the Disney+ series. The sequel released in 2013 was named Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters. Although the movie was supposed to follow the book which is a five-novel series, the franchise never saw a third movie happen.
Percy Jackson Season 1 Dropping Soon On Disney+
Now, fans might get to see the story of Percy Jackson in more detail along with the story of what happened after the incidents of the second movie. The latest trailer for the TV series gives fans an exciting preview of what’s to come for the first season.
The upcoming Disney+ series centers on Percy Jackson who is a 12-year-old boy with a mythical heritage. After learning about the truth of his birth, his mother decides to send him off to Camp Half-Blood. This is where he discovers that his father is the god of the sea, also known as Poseidon. Moreover, he is also informed that Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen and he might be a possible suspect.
Now, to prove that he is innocent, Percy must travel across America to find out who stole the bolt and bring him to justice.
Aryan Simhadri Plays Percy Jackson In The Disney+ Series
Season 1 will have a total of eight episodes with the first two slated to air on December 20. The rest of the episodes will roll out weekly. The lead character, Percy, is played by Walker Scobell while Virginia Kull plays his mother. Aryan Simhadri is playing the role of Grover, the faithful satyr, who is a half-human and half-goat mythological creature. Finally, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth completes the trio who will set out on an adventure across America. And yes, this includes a visit to the underworld ruled by Hades.
While both the series and the movie are an adaptation of the book, they are in no way similar. The series does more justice to the book given that the characters are of the right age. In the movie, the characters are depicted as teenagers while in the book they are pre-teens or simply put, kids. Given how detailed the book is, summing up the story in a movie of one and a half hours was almost impossible. However, with the TV show, the story gets a new and better platform for more detailed storytelling.
