The press tour of “The Odyssey” commenced today in London as the cast arrived at IET London: Savoy Place, for a photo call on a summer day, looking out over the Thames. The film certainly has one of the best ensembles of the year, but it should come as no surprise that Zendaya is stealing the show.
The star wore a custom creation from Jacquemus that channeled the Greek goddess Athena, who is also played by Zendaya in the adaptation from Christopher Nolan, who has directed her twice. Zendaya and Law Roach drew inspiration from the mythological status of the goddess, whose temple is seen in one of the film’s opening scenes.

They began developing the look by opting for a simple ivory column, which immediately brought to mind the draped dresses of ancient Greek sculptures, but then added a modern twist with the open back, keeping the focus on the red carpet rather than on the film’s historical setting.
Then they began to add details.
Her sleek white headband gave the impression of a traditional Grecian costume, while simultaneously updating it for the modern era. Meanwhile, the plunging neckline of the back provided an additional highlight, ensuring that this simple white column would garner attention from all angles.
Of course, the jewels completed the ensemble.
Barron London has created a pair of exceptional earrings for the star using ancient finds from the first millennium BC. He set the unearthed disc, which dates from ancient times, into modern 18k yellow gold earrings enhanced with diamonds. This is exactly the sort of look I would have thought Zendaya would go for, and if there was a tour start that she would pick, this is definitely the one I would expect from her. It communicated an extremely clear narrative, and it connected her to the mythologies of classical Greece without being excessively lavish or showy. Everything was done with purpose so that not a single detail overshadowed the others, giving the photocall a very well-considered appearance.
This tour is going to be fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
