Travis Kelce has been contemplating his career and the amount of time he will get to share the field with his quarterback and friend, Patrick Mahomes.
After the Friday, Dec. 19, media briefing, the 36-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end was asked by the press whether the duo might part ways on the football field after Mahomes’ latest injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
The response Kelce gave was, “Oh man, that’s insane.”

Drafted in 2017, Patrick Mahomes, 30, has also been the only one to have played for the Chiefs in his entire career. Together, the two have bagged three Super Bowl titles.
Unfortunately, their streak of good fortune ended when the father of three suffered a double ligament tear in his left knee during the last drive in the Chiefs’ playoff-eliminating defeat by the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 14. In fact, this is the first time in a decade that the team has failed to qualify.
Also, there have been whispers that this might be Kelce’s last season in the NFL.

On Friday, Kelce said that he would prefer to “rather keep the spotlight of the media and all that on the team right now.” “I’ll be having all kinds of talks with the team on how to move forward and that will be with them only,” he added.
However, the football player who is engaged to Taylor Swift, said, “This is a very special time in my life.”
“Unfortunately, we’ve only got three more games, and I know when the season ends this year. Normally, when we are going into it, we don’t know when it’s going to be over, and that’s what makes it beautiful,” Kelce said on Friday. He also mentioned that he’s “trying to make sure that everyone knows that I’m really focused on winning the last three games of the season.”

Travis Kelce Opens Up About Mahomes’ Injury and Their Bond On and Off the Field
Before Mahomes’ injury, Kelce was not shy to express what he felt.
Kelce said on their New Heights podcast with Jason Kelce on Dec 17, “Without a doubt, that was the biggest loss for us, the quarterback. The MVP, the Most Outstanding Player, our star was the one who took the hardest hit, an ACL. Those situations are just nothing but sad when you see your people getting hurt. The last game was no different to us as there was more than one player in that situation. Still, we managed to keep the fight alive.”
Following their collaboration on the field, they also ventured in business by launching a restaurant which they named 1587 Prime Steakhouse in Kansas City, the launch was in September. Besides being friends, Swift and Brittany, Mahomes’ wife, are also fans of Kelce and Mahomes and frequently seen at games of the Chiefs cheering their husbands.

Patrick Mahomes, who was a guest on New Heights in 2023, told the co-hosts during the episode that the two of them knew from the beginning that their friendship was going to be something special.
A “rookie” Mahomes had just arrived at the Chiefs and was trying to figure out how to “fit in,” but on the night before a team event, he saw Kelce out while partying.
Mahomes was sure he “had all my alarms set,” but he woke up 15 minutes after the time he was supposed to be at the location. When he got to the Chiefs facility, he realized he was already very late and therefore decided to just sit in the locker room until he was called to the office where he got a fine.
“I thought it was so weird, they first asked me if I was with Travis,” Mahomes said, and he even denied that.

“To make a long story short, Travis was late as well. He arrived five minutes before I did,” Mahomes shared.
After Kelce admitting to being late quite a few times in the past, he was quite enthusiastic about the fact that he now had a teammate that was also not punctual.
“We are not alone!” Kelce laughed after running into Mahomes. “Come on!”
