Tiffany Haddish’s long legal battle concluded in the Georgia courtroom. The actress and comedian closed her 2022 DUI case with a plea agreement, which ended the matter to everyone’s satisfaction.
Tiffany Haddish Pleads Guilty to Georgia DUI Charge
Tiffany Haddish admitted to a drunk driving charge at age 54 in Fayette County, Georgia. This plea was on the morning that her postponed long trial was scheduled to begin. After the plea, she was not sent to prison.
SHE was DUI charged as a result of being arrested in Peachtree City about 30 miles from Atlanta on January 14, 2022. A citizen used 911 to inform the authorities of a driver who had fallen asleep behind the wheel and was stopped at the red light by a white Ford Explorer.
A number of drivers who found it funny had them constantly blaring their horns at the traffic light, which was one of those that were controlled by lights.
A traffic policeman who was passing by the intersection decided to pull over the woman driver for the reason that her direction of drive seemed very strange.
Coincidentally, the policeman caught the woman emitting a very strong weed smell from her coat, in addition to a very faint smell of whiskey on her breath, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Haddish is on Probation for 12 Months
After videoconferencing with her, Haddish pleaded, and then the judge imposed a one-year probation on her as a condition of not consuming alcohol or drugs.
Additionally, A drug and alcohol abuse evaluation is also required. As one of the terms in this agreement, Georgia driver’ license of the accused is going to be suspended.
The court was able to get the time period of the jail that the accused spent after her arrest credited.
The remaining minor offenses, including the drug-related DUI, were waived at the same time. Haddish’s lawyers had filed a motion in May asking for the case to be thrown out due to the wait that took almost four years.
However, they contended that this prolonged wait brought about a lot of hardship for her both emotionally and professionally and was a violation of her rights to a speedy trial.
That reasoning was dismissed by Judge Jason Thompson, who pointed out that some of the delays had been caused by Haddish and her legal teams themselves.
One of the delay periods allowed Tiffany Haddish to be part of a fashion show in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Tiffany Haddish drove drunk again in the Los Angeles suburb of Beverly Hills in November 2023. Her vehicle was said to be difficult for her to control.
In February 2024, she pleaded guilty to a lesser traffic violation. Misdemeanor DUI charges in the Beverly Hills case were dropped.
