The Tate brothers were arrested by US Marshals in Miami on a UK extradition request over rape and sex trafficking charges. US Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on Saturday, after the UK requested their extradition on allegations of rape and sex trafficking.

UK Authorities allege the brothers trafficked and assaulted women in the East of England, between 2010 and 2017.

Why the Tate brothers were arrested in Miami

According to the UK Crown Prosecution Service, Andrew Tate is accused of 42 counts, including rape, trafficking, indecent images of a child, and assault, while his brother Tristan Tate is charged with 17 counts, which include sexual assault and rape.

“Bedfordshire Major Crime officers have been working in partnership with the CPS and other national and international agencies, as part of a joint investigation into the Tates,” said Bedfordshire Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas.

US Marshals confirm the arrest of the Tate brothers

The Department of Justice confirmed the arrest of Andrew and Tristan Tate by the US Marshals was carried out “in response to an extradition request.”

“The Department of Justice confirms that arrests were made by the US Marshals in accordance with treaties and law enforcement data sharing agreements that the Department routinely negotiates and manages with partner countries, in support of Justice Department extradition requests,” the spokesperson said.

The brothers are set to appear in a Federal Court in Miami next week, according to law enforcement.

The Tate brothers deny the allegations through their attorney

An attorney for the brothers said they are innocent and criticized the UK for trying to extradite the brothers. “There is an agreement between the UK and the Romanian Governments that the UK would not seek extradition while the Romanian proceedings are pending,” said Joseph McBride, an attorney for the Tates.

“Those proceedings are ongoing. That agreement exists for good reason, because no country can operate at the expense of the judicial independence of another for political reasons,” he added. Romanian proceedings involving the Tate brothers are still ongoing

Romanian prosecutors accused the brothers of trafficking women into the UK, Romania, and the US, and of sexually exploiting trafficked women. The Tates have denied the allegations.

CNN has contacted the Romanian Ministry of Justice for a reaction to the brothers’ arrests. Supporters say the brothers have been encouraging misogyny and promoting violence toward women.

Andrew Tate has been posting extreme views on social media, such as the empowerment of males at the expense of females and a woman’s worth being dependent on her ability to make money. He was suspended from several social media platforms.

The brothers are expected to appear in federal court in Miami

The brothers are naturalized US citizens and have been ordered to appear in court in Romania to answer allegations of human trafficking, among other charges. However, they have been residing in the US after Romania revoked the travel ban imposed on them by the authorities.

According to reports, the brothers arrived in Florida in February 2025. Upon their arrival, they got involved in yet another legal case in Florida after being charged with cyberstalking. The case was filed by the Office of the Statewide Prosecution and was led by Attorney General James Uthmeier. The Tates were criticizing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for restricting their entry into the state.

“When Americans who are imprisoned abroad illegally return to the United States, you betray them,” Andrew wrote on X (formerly Twitter) last year. “You’d better nail me now. Let’s go,” he added.

Thomas, the spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police, said there is no room for men to be violent toward women and girls. “We will do everything we can to support victims and continue to investigate any reports of alleged abuse made to us, “she added.
