The Most Talked About TV Shows Right Now

The quality of the shows available to watch on streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video fluctuates. Sometimes, there’s an array of options, but other times, you find yourself scrolling and scrolling, praying you’ll find something. Right now, the quality seems to have increased again, as numerous shows are turning viral on the internet.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon is the prequel to Game of Thrones that aired in late August on HBO. The first series, which follows House Targaryen and their reign from the Iron Throne, is available to watch on HBO Max, a stand-alone streaming service with all of HBO’s hit franchises, including Euphoria. House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood”; it has already developed a large cult following. According to Variety, the show has averaged roughly 29 million viewers per episode.

The Watcher

The Watcher is a mystery thriller miniseries on Netflix. The show is based on the shocking real-life events that occurred at Maria and Derek Broaddus’ home in Westfield, New Jersey in 2014. Ryan Murphy, known for American Horror Story, produced the show for Netflix, and The Watcher was viewed for over 125 million hours in its first five days on the platform.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The fantasy genre is cool again based on the recent success of both House of the Dragon and Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Amazon Prime spent $1 billion on the show’s production, and it is set thousands of years before the events in The Hobbit. New and returning Lord of the Rings characters are featured in the show, appealing to the die-hard fans of J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels. According to reports, 25 million viewers watched the Lord of the Rings prequel in its first 24 hours.

The Midnight Club

Critically acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan has returned to our screens with his show The Midnight Club on Netflix. The horror mystery-thriller follows five terminally ill teenagers living at a hospice in Seattle. Flanagan is known for adapting popular horror and supernatural books into shows and movies, and The Midnight Club is based on Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel of the same name.

The Bear

The Bear is a critically acclaimed American comedy-drama that premiered on FX on Hulu in June. It follows a young chef (Jeremy Allen White from Shameless) that returns home to Chicago after his older brother passes away. He gives up the world of fine dining for a rundown kitchen with an unruly staff. In the summer, The Bear was one of the most-watched shows across all platforms, and it has been renewed for a second season.

There is so much creativity in the world, and we’re starting to see it again through hit TV shows like House of the Dragon and The Bear. Whether it’s adaptations of classic tales or the return of renowned directors like Ryan Murphy, there is no shortage of options to watch on streaming platforms this fall.
