The Benefits Of Artificial Grass

A lot of people have misconceptions about artificial grass. You might think that it feels like plastic, that it doesn’t look real, or that it’s not durable.

There are good reasons for these misconceptions. Back when the stuff was introduced in the ‘60s and ‘70s, it wasn’t exactly high quality. Artificial turf back then was designed to be used for sports fields, where aesthetics mattered a lot less.

Today, artificial grass is incredible—it looks and feels like a real lawn, and it’s the perfect choice for many homeowners.

With the addition of artificial grass, the area around pre-built sheds becomes low-maintenance, eliminating the need for regular mowing, watering, or weeding.

Artificial grass is extremely low maintenance

When you get artificial grass, you’ll never have to mow your lawn again. You’ll never have to water your lawn again. You’ll have 99% fewer weeds to pick. Almost all of your lawn care maintenance woes disappear—just like that.

You will still have a bit of maintenance to do—spraying weed killer can help you avoid having to pull up any weeds at all, and you’ll still need to clean up after your pets and use a cordless leaf blower to clear up fallen leaves. You’ll also want to avoid leaving heat sources like barbecues or reflective surfaces like mirrors near your artificial grass.

Aside from that, however, you’re in the clear on the maintenance front—so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your beautiful lawn.

It’s perfect for families of all ages

Kids are a lot of fun—but they can be a handful. They can bring in handfuls, too—handfuls of grass-stained clothes. With artificial grass, your kids can enjoy all of the benefits of a big, beautiful lawn—and you’ll have a lot fewer messes to clean up.

Artificial lawns are also perfect for aging in place. When you want the joy of sitting on your lawn and enjoying the weather—but mobility issues or other health concerns leave you unable to care for a traditional law— artificial grass may be the perfect choice.

Pets love it, too

Dogs love grass—and our artificial grass feels and looks just like the real thing. To dogs, however, it doesn’t smell or taste like the real thing, and that’s good news for pet owners.

While eating grass is a dog’s natural instinct, it can cause health problems. Dogs that eat grass can be exposed to pesticides, herbicides, and various bacteria and parasites. Artificial grass will dissuade dogs—and other pets—from seeing your lawn as a snack. That’s a win-win; your dog won’t get sick, and you won’t have to deal with patches of your lawn getting torn up by your furry friends.

You can save money in the long run

With lower maintenance, you won’t have to spend as much time mowing the lawn—and as we all know, time is money. Better yet, you won’t have to buy a lawn mower or a grass trimmer. Your water bill will be lower, too—you don’t need to water artificial grass.

Are you hiring other people to take care of your yard for you? Those costs can add up to a lot over time. An artificial lawn doesn’t take nearly as much care—and that means you won’t need to pay someone else to mow your lawn. A cleanup a couple of times a year is all you’ll need.

The disadvantages of artificial grass

As much as we love artificial grass, it’s not all sunshine and roses. There are a few disadvantages we want to talk about:

First, artificial lawns are more expensive to install than regular lawns. That extra cost can be offset by the lower maintenance cost over time—but it is important to keep in mind. Artificial lawns also tend to have a shorter lifespan than living lawns, so you’ll need to replace them more often.

Artificial grass is also prone to getting quite hot—you might miss the feeling of cool grass under your feet on the warmest days. As we mentioned above, you’ll also want to avoid putting anything hot or reflective on your artificial lawn—too much heat can damage it.

There are also some environmental concerns with artificial grass. While our suppliers strive to use eco-friendly methods in their production facilities, all artificial grass has the consequence of decreasing biodiversity.

Finally, some people just love natural grass! Lawn care can be a rewarding experience, and with artificial grass, you might miss the smell of a freshly mowed lawn.
