5 things we found out from Taylor Swift’s “New Heights” podcast interview

Taylor Swift Crashes New Heights to Announce Her Next Era

One of the most “Taylor Swift” instances just happened when she announced her next music era by interrupting her boyfriend’s podcast! The 35-year-old pop superstar was supercharged with news she had been keeping for so long but finally in a nearly two-hour session on New Heights with Travis and Jason Kelce, she let the cat out of the bag.
This is my brand-new album, The Life of a Showgirl,” she indicated on a blurred-out vinyl. October 3 is the release date. Not keeping the lid on for a second, Travis let out a loud “T.S. 12!” as if saying, “That’s the twelfth album from Taylor Swift.”

New Heights went viral within minutes of the full episode being put on YouTube, almost ten million views, and fans got to see the full album cover and so much more. Reluctant to let his fans down, Taylor was incredibly candid about her high-profile romance with Travis, the significance of being in control of her entire music catalog, and not giving up on dropping more clues about her new album.

A True Showgirl: Making an Album While Traveling

It was only after the New Heights (Taylor’s Version) episode leaked that we started getting the new, intriguing narrative about her album. And by the looks of it, the choice of title, The Life of a Showgirl, turns out to be quite a literal one.

Taylor informed the Kelce brothers that she had put together the whole record while she was touring around Europe for the Eras Tour. She used her three days off to fly out to the studio in Sweden and record. That’s an energy that made even her Super Bowl-winning boyfriend very amazed. “The way she did it during the tour is still baffling me,” Travis said on the podcast.

For Taylor, it was just one thing: she “loved music so much.” She told how she’d wrap up an exhausting three-show stint, take off for her three days off to record, and then fly right back to the tour. “I was so worn out physically at the tour,” she said, “but I was so mentally energized and very happy to create.”

Travis was amazed that his girlfriend was “literally living the life of a showgirl” with such a schedule. After revealing the background, she went on to disclose the full tracklist for the new album. Moreover, she was not collaborating with a random person. For the whole album, they were made in Sweden alongside the famous pop production duo Max Martin and Shellback – the very same hitmakers who were behind some of her most iconic tracks like “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Shake It Off,” and “Blank Space.”

An Album of ‘Infectious Melodies’ and ‘Vivid’ Lyrics

At last the Swiftie crowd could enjoy the moment of their dreams: the unveiling of the track list. “Do you want to see the back cover?” she said jokingly and thus presenting the 12 songs of her 12th studio album. After that, she went through the titles one by one, even announcing that the surprised would be a duet with Sabrina Carpenter.

Taylor says it is an album she wanted to make for years. “This is the album I have been dreaming of making for a very long time,” she characterized it. She made it clear that the songs will reveal to fans “what was going on behind the scenes during this tour,” a time she called “so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”

So what about the sound? Taylor envisioned the melodies to be “so infectious that you are almost angry at it”—those songs listeners are forced to repeat. On top of that, she wanted the lyrics to be “just as vivid but crisp and focused and completely intentional,” thus presenting a collection of sharp and engaging storytelling pieces.
And what about the bright, glittery orange palette for the album? It was not merely a beautiful design picked at random. To Taylor, it was the perfect visual representation of her life, a color that was “energetically how my life has felt.”

The big Easter egg Swift secretly left for The Life of a Showgirl

Anyway, it’s always that way with Taylor Swift – nothing is ever by chance. She basically said that the now-iconic orange door that she went out from on the last night of the Eras Tour was a subliminal hint that was deliberately made. It was her way of telling the world, “While I am going out of the Eras Tour era, I am also going into a new one” – the one of The Life of a Showgirl, she added.

For the most part, the show was repeated a hundred times as Taylor described it: “I would leave the stage every night going down the elevator lift. That’s how every single Eras show ended.” But on that last night, she was different. “Except for one, except for the last one, where I exited through a door — an orange door, to be specific,” she said. Moreover, she went on to say, “And that actually was an Easter egg,” in case anyone still didn’t get it.

And the best part? The Swifties, with their detective skills that are beyond belief, were the first to spot the change. Taylor had to admit that she was “pretty happy” with her fans when they found the clue. It was a moment of recognition for the master of Easter eggs, who was jokingly saying, “I was like, ‘I trained them well.’”

The Art of the Easter Egg

Of course, the topic of her legendary Easter eggs came up as well, and Taylor really took the opportunity to reveal her secret-dropping method. She confided that it’s quite a challenge and she must adhere to a very strict set of dos and don’ts like a devotee.

What is the top rule in her manual of tactics? Absolutely, she wouldn’t plant a clue related to her personal life. Without fail, her hints are always about her work—new music, a secret project, or simply a big idea coming up.
It’s all about those little seeds that might not be clear at first but will have fans looking at them later and experiencing the classic “Oh my God!” moment when the whole picture gets revealed. It’s a game she plays with her fans, and it’s obvious she enjoys every moment of it.

It All Adds Up: A Numeric Love Story

As a matter of fact, one of the reasons Taylor’s love for complicated hidden gems grew so much was that she became fascinated with numbers, dates, and all things numerology. She confessed that she loved “math stuff,” and in a nice and very characteristic disclosure, she revealed that she and Travis even have their own special numeric connection.
It is beyond doubt that her lucky number is 13. And what about Travis’s jersey number? It is 87. As Taylor stated, the sum of them makes a perfect 100. To her, it is not only a coincidence; these are “numbers that have a specific meaning,” another little piece of the puzzle in their very public, yet intricately detailed, love story.

Swift’s mom and brother helped her buy her masters back

Swift shared about taking back total control over her entire discography. It was publicized in May that the singer acquired the masters for her recordings — initially her works released via Big Machine Records — from the new owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital. The amount was not made known.
Travis said that Swift “reclaiming” her master recordings was “one of my favourite things this summer.”

“I signed a record deal when I was 15 and maybe I could call it summer when I got my music back, but actually, I never had my music in my own hand at all,” Swift stated. “Typically, many record deals are arranged in such a manner that artists don’t own the so-called master recordings of their works. Having your master recordings means that you are the one who has the complete authority and control over distribution, licensing and basically the way the history of your music is shaped.”
She said that she had been saving for a very long time to get her music back since she was a teenager.

Winning Back Her Legacy

Taylor Swift’s battle to regain control of her own music has been one of the characteristics that define her path, and during the podcast, she told the very intimate story of how she reached that point.

It was, as a matter of fact, a family support. Her mother, Andrea, and brother, Austin, were instructed to go to Los Angeles to meet with Shamrock Capital and plead on her behalf. Besides giving them a complete business overview or what the negotiations entailed, they also exposed the whole, tragic story – every turned-down offer, every figurative wall met, and just how much it affected her personally.

Then, a little while after the Super Bowl, she finally got the call she was longing for, for years. She shared at the podcast, “I get a call from my mom, and she’s like, ‘You got your music.’
The news was so huge that her rejoinder was quite as enormous as you could envisage. “I just, very theatrically, and for real, made my way to the floor,” she confessed. “Truthfully, I just began to cry like a baby and I’m like, weeping,” she said.

And it wasn’t just her. Travis said he was there alongside her and together they both were totally emotionally wiped out. “You were weeping,” she reminded him. He informed her why the moment touched him so much: “I was surprised that you decided to go through this in your entire life and for your first six albums, you weren’t the one who got the rights to all of that,” he added. “I know how it looked and I know how much it eats you up that you didn’t have that,” he said.

A Friendship Bracelet and a Hail Mary Pass

How did this whole epic love story get to be known first of all? Well, this is nothing but the Eras Tour. Through the performance at his home stadium, Travis told the whole story, the spark was the starter of the fire.

His worked out a way to meet her after the gig at the Arrowhead Stadium, in Kansas City was in July 2023. He was also going to give her a friendship bracelet that he made as a symbol of their bond. Due to the fact that he couldn’t get backstage, Taylor joked and said that he had a “man tantrum”. She mused about their first encounter, “This dude didn’t get a meet and greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem, that’s what I thought at first.”

However, moment number two totally changed her opinion. Travis was in his own podcast when he publicly flirted with her and told the entire world his interest in her, this is when she was shocked. She termed it as “wild” and extremely charming. “It was such a wild, romantic gesture to just be like, ‘I want to date you,'” she summarized.

For Travis, it was a no-brainer. Seeing her command the stage at his home turf was all the magic he needed. “That’s what it does when you’re on the stage and you perform in Arrowhead. That’s what it did to me,” he remarked. In his opinion, the rules were easy: “You come to Arrowhead, I get to meet you. That’s the perk of playing for the Chiefs.”

A Modern-Day John Hughes Movie

Travis setting up a meeting with Taylor through sheer hopeful improvisation was a wonder of its own. As a part of the ice-breaking story, Taylor mentioned how he didn’t use any of the sanctioned ways to get in touch with her. “Don’t you see that he didn’t even contact our management?” she stated “Pat (Patrick Mahomes) was the one who brought him and he just assumed that because he knows the elevator lady, he could talk to her about getting down to my dressing room only.”

It was like a small, almost humorous and exaggerated, yet audacious and terrific, bit of luck that could’ve worked in the opposite way and so the whole thing would miss its great ending. True but when he wore his failure like a badge and went public via his podcast, the story did not remain just a simple missed connection but rather a cinematic thing. For Taylor, that “became a moment that I felt more like I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?’”

What Travis sought after was exactly one chance. ‘My attitude was pretty straightforward: “just meet me for one time, only give me one chance,” he said.

Sure, that moment in front of the crowd when he made his emotional, almost cliché, call was the zenith of the romantic Travis dream-life and the corresponding husky-toned sigh from Taylor followed next, “It was like, ‘If this guy is not insane, this is what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager, he is.'” she remarked.

From National Anthems to First Downs: Taylor’s NFL Obsession

It’s official: Taylor Swift has a new “Love Story,” and it’s with the National Football League. The singer comically traced her development from total ignorance to a full-blown NFL fan, confessing to her “obsession” with the game.
In the beginning, when she only knew Travis, she was completely puzzled. “I didn’t know what a first down was. I didn’t know what the chains were. I didn’t know what a tight end was,” she admitted. But that was very short-lived. “Oh my God, I fell in love with it. I became obsessed with it.”

Her metamorphosis has been so total that even her friends are surprised. “I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’” she chuckled. “My friends are like, ‘Who body-snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’”

She said that her love for sports was completely opposite before. As a child, it was just noise around her. “I always heard my dad yelling at the screen watching Eagles games,” she reminisced. “However, I was up in my room, playing guitar… I was so laser-focused on music.”

In her view, sports were just another stage: “I would go to sporting events so I could sing the national anthem,” she told. “Everything was a means to an end to get me to do music.”

And in a hilarious and witty counter to the never-ending gripes about her presence at games, Taylor dropped a sarcastic one-liner with a grin. “You guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast,” she said, “and I think we all know that if there’s one thing male sports fans would want from their spaces and their screens, it’s more of me.”
