Suzy Eddie Izzard has confided that one day she still wants to have children while also reflecting on how the death of her mother when she was a child has greatly shaped her. The 64-year-old comedian, actor and activist unveiled this private thought during an ADHD! No You’re Not podcast episode with Paul Whitehouse and Dr Mine Conkbayir.
Izzard dived into the topic of being a motherless child after her mother, Dorothy, a nurse and a midwife, had cancer and died in 1968 when Suzy was only six years old. Apart from the loss, she said she doesn’t have grief anymore in the same way.
She also revealed during the interview that she desired to have children even though until now she has not produced any. Responding to the question of whether being without immediate family has made her feel more loss, Izzard turned to the memories of her grief and connection that led her to change her viewpoint.

Suzy Eddie Izzard has shared the impact of repressing her mother’s death on her boarding school survival strategy, including the long-term sadness and loneliness that led to feeling “dead inside”. On the ADHD! No You’re Not podcast, the 64-year-old revealed that she used to stop crying when she was 11, as a way of protecting herself, but only at 19 did she realize she had shut down emotionally.
“I took off the scar tissue that kept me going, ” she said, talking about how she was shocked to find out that she felt nothing when she saw a cat that had just been run over on the street. She added that, in her opinion, boarding schools “turn children into zombies”.
However, the activist and comedian is keen on the future and would love to have children and experience love once more. “Having children would make me very happy. But at the moment, it’s not there. Never say never, ” she shared with Gyles Brandreth on the Rosebud podcast.
Izzard, who is trans, also made things clear about her love life. She said that she has always been attracted to women and not men. She was last in a widely recognized relationship with singer Sarah Townsend. Nevertheless, she is hopeful about meeting a partner and even starting a family one day, saying that if the “right opportunity” comes along she would be “very happy” to have children.

Suzy Eddie Izzard reveals that she still wants love but at present she is happy living alone. The 64 year-old artist remarked that although she is not actively looking for a partner, she would not say no to the right person.
“I am incredibly satisfied with where I am right now so that is why I am not looking, ” she stated while also mentioning that should she find someone with whom she truly connects, she would be open to it. “However, I am not hitting the discos actively.”
Trans dating is not only difficult for Izzard but requires a great deal of understanding and she states that a partner would have to be a very confident and strong woman. Additionally, she opened up about her most treasured characteristics in a partner including intelligence, sense of humor and a good conversation partner.
She is not discouraged and even sees that as a possibility, “At some point, the right person will appear and we will click.”
In the past Izzard was in an enduring relationship with the songstress and the director Sarah Townsend whom she came across at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1989.
