Simple Ways to Help Improve the Planet

According to the United Nations, we are at a tipping point in regard to the state of our planet. Weather patterns have been changing, sea levels are rising, and the massive alterations climate change can bring, it compels everyone to take any possible actions to avoid a future with irreversible damage. While the scale of hurdles facing our planet seems daunting, there are various practical things every person can do to help save the earth. Here’s a closer look at some of them:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

By adopting the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” mantra, we can make a significant difference in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Did you know that the average American household discards 13,000 pieces of paper each year with most of it consisting of junk mail and packaging? Instead of tossing it, why not can recycle it?

However, there’s more that you can do. Take reusable bags to the grocery store, stop using disposable plates, glasses, and utensils, and contact companies to get off mailing lists to help reduce waste. When you order online, try and group your packages together for mailing. Buying products made of recycled materials and recycling our own paper also makes a difference. By making these small changes, you can help create a healthier planet for yourself and future generations.

Conserve Water

Water conservation is crucial for our planet’s survival,  and this is where sustainability consulting can play a vital role Even small efforts like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can have a significant impact. Reports show that a leaky faucet can waste up to 90 gallons (340 liters) of water each day, which adds up pretty quickly. So, ensure you have it fixed.

Additionally, you can make a positive impact by avoiding bottled water and switching to filtered tap water. This not only saves you money but also reduces the amount of plastic waste you generate.

Be Car Conscious

According to a report by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), staying off the road for at least 2 days a week can help minimize greenhouse gas emissions by about 1600 pounds or 722 kilograms per year. You can achieve this by doing a few things like combining errands and discussing with your employer about working from home.

Being car conscious also implies keeping your car in optimal condition. Keep the tires inflated to the right pressure to improve your gas mileage and ensure you make the necessary repairs should the vehicle fail emission.

Bike, Walk or Use Public Transit

Another great way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is by walking or taking a bike ride. In addition, you will get to burn some calories, boost your mood and stay fit. However, if you live in a place where you cannot walk or bike to work or school, consider taking public transit. You can even carpool with your colleagues to save on gas and reduce emissions.

The Takeaway

There are many other ways to help change the current state of our planet, but the ones mentioned here are some of the easiest ways to start with marine conservation and conserving planet Earth.
