Jay‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Leno Reveals a Difficult Portion of His Wife Mavis’ Dementia

Jay Leno is sharing with the public one of the very difficult things that his wife Mavis Leno’s dementia journey was.
He said the former Tonight Show host on the Nov. 20 episode of Today that Mavis was very upset because she had to endure over and over again her mother’s death.
“Most probably the most difficult part was that every day she would come to the realization that it had to be someone who called to tell her her mother had passed away,” said Mr. Leno to Hoda Kotb. “And her mother died every day for three years, at ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌least.”

Jay Leno said it was each time as Mavis, 79, seemed to be “learning for the first time” that her mother had died.
“That was really tricky,” the 75-year-old confessed. “That makes it hard.”
Anyway, he is still trying to concentrate on what is within his power. “I know what it is, so you cannot blame her,” Jay said of her dementia.
“She is not forgetting me. That hasn’t happened yet,” he added. “She seems very relaxed now. And she seems happy, and she seems loving. It is actually OK. It is good. I like taking care of ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌her.”

Jay‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Leno Spills Daily Routine With Mavis Hasn’t Changed Much — Except One Big Thing

After Mavis Leno was diagnosed with dementia, Jay Leno still sees a lot of their daily routine that they do together.
“I remember it this way: Every day after The Tonight Show I would go home, cook dinner for her, and we’d watch TV,” he said. “Just that you are not able to talk about a lot of things is the only difference.”
Jay also works hard to keep Mavis in touch with people outside of the house. Mavis is a staunch traveler, consultant, and giver—she was even nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for her support of Women in Afghanistan under the Taliban—and she has always loved discovering new places, so Jay does what he can to keep that sense of exploration ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌alive.

Jay, who is known to have married Mavis in 1980, decided to clarify his position as her caretaker by applying for a conservatorship over her assets in January 2024, as per the information from the documents that E! News got. The conservatorship was officially set up in April, thus allowing him to be in charge of her affairs while she goes on to live with advanced ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌dementia.

Amy‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Schumer Credits Online Trolls for Cushing Syndrome Diagnosis

Amy Schumer says that online trolling led in an unexpected way to her diagnosis that saved her life.

I sort of knew it was my brain that was damaged.”
Clarke was taken to the hospital for a brain scan.
“The very brief and quite scary moment of the diagnosis: subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), i.e., a stroke of a kind most dangerous to life, caused by bleeding in the space around the brain,” the Emmy nominee remembered. “I had an aneurysm, a rupture of an ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌artery.”

Shailene‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Woodley Breaks the Silence About “Mixing” of Her Secret Health Problems

Shailene Woodley says her early 20s were a time when she was struggling with a terrifying and confusing health issue.
“It got to a point that I was losing my hearing. I could not walk for more than five minutes without the need to lie down for hours and sleep. Anything I ate would hurt my stomach,” she told on the SHE MD podcast in September 2024. “It was a conflation of issues and diagnoses, and I had different doctors telling me different things.”
Shailene, however, decided not to disclose her exact condition but was determined by all means to find the solution.
“I am from a very holistic family and I also study herbalism,” she said. “So I was very focused on, ‘I will work with real MDs, [and] I will also work with maverick healers.’ Just trying to find some way of comfort in my own ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌skin.”

Shailene‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Woodley Reveals Her 10 Years of Health Battle Impacted Her Physically and Mentally

Shailene Woodley’s health condition that was unclear for many years eventually became a long journey of a decade.
“During that ten years, a lot of things, in fact, came from the very unfortunate nature of the physical side of the story,” said the actress of Big Little Lies appearing on the SHE MD podcast. “If it is the case that everything I eat causes pain in my stomach, then naturally I become terrified of food.” According to her, this terror led to “the kind of mental f–ckery that can happen with that of body dysmorphia and confusion about identity and feeling safe in my own capsule, in my own skin.”
She has made it through to the other side with her physical and mental health.
“It was a journey that in the end, it was a physical one and it was resolved, and now I am very fit,” Shailene announced. “I’m very glad to be able to say ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌that.”
