Selena Gomez is speaking out. Following allegations that the “Calm Down” singer, her mother Mandy Teefey, and founding partner Daniella Piereson defrauded investors in her mental health startup Wondermind, her lawyer is standing up against the securities fraud and breach of contract accusations with a simple but powerful statement.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” said Gomez’s litigator Mathew S. Rosengart in a statement to E! News Aug. 15.
“We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her.”
Selena Gomez Denies Wondermind Lawsuit Allegations
In a lawsuit obtained by E! News Aug. 13, which lists Gomez, Teefey and Piereson as defendants, limited liability companies Wondermind SRS 44 and Bespoke Wondermind SPV accused the trio of submitting false information to investors, including that Gomez would be “intimately involved” in the creation of the program.
“Gomez purported to sign a contract obligating her to perform and then ignored it,” the lawsuit reads. “The partnerships did not exist. The initiatives never materialized. The app was never built. And for three years, while the Company quietly collapsed around them, not one of its founders, officers, or directors said a word to the investors whose money was funding the collapse.”
What the Wondermind Lawsuit Claims
According to the complaint, investors were made aware in September 2025 that Gomez’s company, following in the footsteps of her mother and star businesswoman, was in dire straits after the publication of The Cut’s exposé on Wondermind, which alleged that Teefey used drugs in the office.
“The Cut later published an exposé in September 2025, in which former employees alleged that Ms. Teefey used drugs in the office (which Ms. Teefey denies),” the lawsuit says.
Meanwhile, the complaint cites an August 2025 Forbes article that reported that following the fallout between Piereson and Teefey, which occurred less than two years after they launched the startup with Gomez, which was founded in November 2021, the 31-year-old was “pushed out.”
At the time, Piereson’s spokesperson stated she “would not characterize it as ‘pushed out,'” noting that “leaving Wondermind was a very difficult decision, but she was proud of what they had built in the time there.”

New York Times regarding the lawsuit. E! News has yet to hear back from representatives for Gomez, Teefey or Piereson regarding the lawsuit.
Wondermind, scheduled to start in 2022 at the earliest, is described as the “first mental fitness ecosystem.”
The company says Wondermind will be a “mental wellness community that allows users a place to connect, share experiences, and talk through emotional challenges together in a friendly, welcoming environment.”
After the release of information about the A-list collaboration, Selena Gomez, who had mentioned getting therapy done at some point, gave an exclusive interview to Entrepreneur in November 2021 about her visions for Wondermind.
“Something that I’ve always focused on as an artist is finding ways for me to be the voice for those who need it.” She said.
“I owe it all to my mother because she is one of the big reasons why I am the way I am.”
