Entrepreneur Opens Up About His Journey of Self-Acceptance
On August 25, in an emotional Instagram post, the creator of Crumbl Cookies, the popular cookie chain, Sawyer Hemsley declared that he is gay.
Hemsley mentioned in his post, “I really haven’t known for ages that this is a part of me.” He denied all the gossip regarding his sexual orientation that were going on and stated that he wanted to be the first one to break the news.”He added, “What I desire is to not depend on others for the understanding of my tale and to convey it through my own words.” “To be honest, sane through self-reflection, I have recognized and accepted that I am a homosexual.”
Hemsley confessed it was quite a struggle before he got there. “I was very indecisive about it and I really wanted to keep it a secret, even when it came to me, and much more so when it was about me speaking it out loud,” he explained.
Finding Strength Through Vulnerability
In 2017, the Sawyer Crumbl joined forces with his cousin Jason McGowan and started Crumbl in Logan, Utah. He was telling about his coming out that it was “overwhelming and, at times, scary,” but “let down an enormous amount of peace, joy, and authenticity” which he would not trade for anything else. Besides that, he briefly mentioned his family background in the LDS church, confessing that “I was brought up with values and beliefs that I still respect and that made this journey more complicated.”

Moreover, he just mentioned in passing his family connection to the LDS church and admitted that “I was raised with values and beliefs which I still respect and that really made this experience more complicated.”
“While I’ve accepted the reality of my own being, I have still kept grateful for my roots,” he remembered.
The business person confessed that by disclosing his sexual preference, he might receive queries or “assessments” by other people but still hoped that as people come to know the importance of being authentic to oneself, “kindness, empathy, and love” would be the response.

“In the end, I wish to express my gratitude that I got so many chances, met so many nice people, have the privilege of being alive, and of being able to tell my story,” Sawyer said. “It was a learning and a truthful experience, and also one that I will always remember,”
The love and support he anticipated soon came, as fans poured the comments with encouraging messages. A supporter commented, “Nicely put, and a big welcome to the family! Your amazing story will become the source of countless others’ courage to accept (and celebrate!) their true selves.”
