Sarah Michelle Gellar Thinks Back on Her Friendship with Shannen Doherty
Sarah Michelle Gellar is looking back at the bond she shared with Shannen Doherty and expressing her thanks a couple of years after the latter’s demise.
Both actresses were in their 20s when they first met on the sets of their different popular TV shows and they got along very well. Gellar shared with PEOPLE that a recent portrayal of their friendship, i.e., “they enjoyed the f— out of each other”, was the best one she’s ever heard.
“So did we, ” replied Gellar. “I made a point of not having any regrets with Shannen, actually, I think we did a really great job of avoiding any. I really don’t think we have any, to be honest.”
Doherty died in July 2024 at the age of 53, long after her initial diagnosis of breast cancer. Gellar recalled the only thing that they weren’t able to do together was their Italian vacation.
“She went, which is all that matters. I wasn’t able to at that time, ” explained Gellar.

Especially because the world moves so fast nowadays. We can and do miss those moments.”
